Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We just want to wish everyone on the forum a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving! Don't eat too much, unless (like me) that is your intention. After all, you have all the rest of the year to lose any extra pounds you might pick up.... except for Christmas Dinner, New Year, Valentine's Day, birthdays, anniversa...
So what's everyone up to? Where are you....let's stay in touch. For me, not much on the newsfront. The house is still being shown, no offers. Do have one young couple that MIGHT be interested, hoping to hear more this week. Slowly weeding out clothes....I had NO IDEA of the amount of clothing I had stash...
Looking ahead to fulltiming in early 2009, we are still considering those things we would want in a newer Fifth Wheel.
Mine have been 5: (current unit has all five)
1. Two recliners in front of large window
2. Fireplace
3. Free standing table and chairs
4. Computer desk
5. Overhead fan
I know...
We just learned Hand and Foot this year, we've played Canasta for years and it is similar. So how do you get the BUTT part? Are there 3 piles of 11? Do you use only 4 decks? Do you still need 2 natural piles and 3 spoiled piles to go out? And the person going out has no discards and the partner has to be in th...
As Howard wrote in today’s blog about Linda reading “Into the Wild”. I too read “Into the Wild” many years ago when I was perhaps more idealistic than today. The book no doubt added to my strong desire to see Alaska, and who knows it may have added fuel to the desire to become a fulltimer. Like most of the pe...
Even though we won't sell our home until 2009, we are very concerned about what has happened to the real estate market. And, like so many of you we have been reading as many articles as we can find to offer any glimmer of good news. With that in mind I encourage anyone who is thinking about selling their h...
Wondering if some of you full timers have Thanksgiving plans for next month. Nothing for sure here but will be where its warmer. southwestjudy & Bob & 2blackdogs
Well, the first scheduled chat went well. I have the transcripts and just need to figure out how to distribute them. So we will try a second scheduled chat. Scheduled Chat - Selling The HouseWednesday, November 14, 2007 Time: 9:30 eastern, 8:30 central, 7:30 mountain, 6:30 pacific Currently w...
I've been a journal-writer since I was a little girl. This is just the logical extension in this web-enabled world. I love how friends and family can stay connected with us this way, but I would write it even if I was the only one who looked at it! When were we at Devil's Tower? What was the name of that p...
Well, I just got an email that the TIME Magazine with the article about full-timing is on the newstands today. It will be out for about a week. Here is the link to the online version: Home Sweet Motor Home Hey it's a major national magazine! Hard to say we're disappointed, but the article is sort of muc...
What would I expect to pay for a weekly or monthly site right on the ocean ? Southwestjudy mentioned it yesterday and I think I would want to explore that possibility after a couple months in Tucson. Also what would the weather be like in Feb-Mar ?? Bob
Well we made the mistake of going to look at the new toyhauler by Excel, the Wild Cargo. I just knew I wouldn't like it for full-timing, because I've looked at lots of them and they just don't seem right for living in. This one is so different, they did it right. If we trade, I really will need a new truck. Any...
It's that time of year again. Linda and I are going through all of our 2007 photos to put together our 2008 calendar. Sheesh. It's tough to choose, so we would like to ask your help. Is there a particular photo or two ... or twelve ... that stood out for you during this year? Post your vote here. We'll...
We’ve been full timing for 8 months now and don’t see ourselves returning to a stick home anytime soon - so I figured it was finally time to stop lurking and get involved. We love reading RV Dreams as Howard and Linda are spending their days just like we would IF it were just the two of us.That season i...
Well today was the day....unemployed for the first time in 47 years. First let me introduce ourselves. We are Fay and Jay from Tulsa. We have been planning this day for over a year and now its here. We have been lurking on this and other forums and occasionally ask questions. I retired from the city...
Well, I'm still in the house....barely. My neighbor will be over today or tomorrow to finalize what she is buying. Then I can put any last pieces of furniture on the local sales trader (online). I have 90% of my stuff moved to The Lily Pad but not put away. The last major piece is the office stuff and I find I...
As we prepare to fulltime, my husband is interested in adding geocaching to hiking. I am thinking of getting him a handheld gps for Christmas - sssh, don't tell him! As I know next to nothing about this subject, I need some suggestions as to what features, etc. I should be considering. Thanks for t...
Okay folks. This is shorter notice than we will usually give, but we don't want to put this off any longer. We're going to kick off our scheduled chats immediately while we know we are available. Scheduled Chat - Choosing Campgrounds & RV ParksWednesday, November 7, 2007 Time: 9:30 eastern, 8...
Even tho we are a few years from fulltiming we are trying to purchase some accessories that we will need on the road ahead of time. Does anyone keep/have a list of accessories that they have had to purchase for their RV? I would love to have some suggestions so maybe we can compare your list to ours!
Than...
We started our dream to full-time in 2005 but those plans had to take a detour. For 2 long, hard years we waited for the opportunity to begin the dream again. Well it is 2007 and we are only a house contract away from those dreams becoming a reality!! I really enjoy reading everyone's journals/ blogs. ...
Hi Everyone! Lots of folks are taking advantage of the free-flow of the Chat Room and having a great time. But I want to crank up the use of the Chat Room. Our intent all along was to use it for live, organized information exchange and seminars. So here is what I want to know. What topics would our Foru...
Well our fulltiming adventure is coming to an end much shorter than we wanted. Since we aren't traveling anyway, its not that traumatic. The Army has decided that they won't pay campground fees and are moving us into an apartment for the rest of hubby's assignment. So we will be moving in a few weeks....
We are planning to be in the Scottsdale, Arizona area from mid-November to mid-January and are looking for recommendations for RV resorts. We want to be somewhere near the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. By near I mean probably within 30-35 miles but closer is better. As long as we have to be in a city, we wo...
From the time of getting a contract to selling it all and getting on the road, how fast can it be done? We plan to hold as estate sale and only have 5-9 weeks to get it all done...can we do it?? (We *may* be getting a contract tonight...) Paula in Fl
Howard, I'm a new member and have just found your site in the past couple of days, but have been voraciously reading all of it. Great stuff! I just have a question about your satellite dish placement. In your pictures of various campground reviews in 2005, I noticed your dish is almost at the very front o...
Hi Howard, for some strange reason a few days ogo I started wondering how Howard and Linda would cope and react if one could wave a magic wand and all of a sudden you were both teleported back from your idyllic lifestyle to a normal life, house, job, commute and all the other stresses. Have you ever given a...
I'm sorry if this has been answered before (I've been busy having fun and away from this forum for awhile) but how come no recent campground reviews??? If you are just a bit behind (cause you're havin fun) that's understandable and I can wait. I really like the reviews and miss them.
Hi--My name is Ken and I am married to my high school sweetheart from the class of "68". The daughters are married, and house is empty, and we are ready for our great adventure. We just bought a 2002 Minnie Winnie and can't wait until spring to use it. I don't know the gray tank from the black...
