Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

What would I expect to pay for a weekly or monthly site right on the ocean ?
Southwestjudy mentioned it yesterday and I think I would want to explore that possibility after a couple months in Tucson.
Also what would the weather be like in Feb-Mar ??

A long the central coast (Monterey Bay area) daily rate full hookup is $65 per day.

Last March we paid $28 a night in Dockweiler RV Park, right on the ocean just south of LAX.

We are looking at a place called Morro Dunes, in Morro Bay along the central coast.  We haven't been there yet, so I don't know what the place looks like.  Their daily rate is $30 - $38.  Weekly is 7 nights for price of 6.  Monthly is $545 - $590.  I can't comment on the weather in that part of the coast, but we were in the San Diego area last year in January, and it wasn't bad, light jacket weather.  We stayed at South Carlsbad State Beach.  No hook ups, $30 a night with a 14 day limit.  It was beautiful!

Great question, travelinbob.  We are currently camped in the Redwood Forest, just south of Garberville, and slowly heading south.  Even with all of the directories and internet search, locating good parks is a challenge.  I will be following this thread, hoping for some good suggestions.

We stayed at Morrows Strand which is right next door to Morro Dunes last April. We thought it was a nicer campground.

Another question comes to mind, are there areas on highway 1 that we should avoid in a 40' class A, pulling a toad?

Highway 1 in California from its northern end in Leggett to San Fransisco is a narrow and curvy road. It is drivable with a 40' DP and toad, but it is slow going and the driver will not remember any of the scenery because they will be too intent on the road. You will also have close calls by cars passing when they shouldn't and cutting in too soon. It took us 2 hours to drive the 44 miles from Leggett to Fort Bragg.

You will definitely want to avoid the stretch of Highway 1 from Olema to Mill Valley and the stretch from Carmel to San Simenon (sp?).

Fred, how hard is it to get to Dockweiler? We have a 39' fiver. Appears that you have to go through a lot of heavy trafic areas?? I saw this on your blog and it looks like a good place to enjoy the ocean?

We came across Golden Gate and thru San Francisco this morning.  Don't think we want to do traffic or narrow lanes no more!  Thanks for the highway 1 info, we will park somehere on 101 and drive the toad to the coast.

Had more issues getting from the Interstate to #1, than on #1.

We especially enjoy the northern coast around Mendocino.

We are camphosts at Doheny State Beach Campground in Dana Point.  Halfway between LA and San Diego.  We are definately "on the beach" and it is beautiful !!  No hookups (except for the camphosts. Yeah !!!)  $35/night, two weeks maximum continuous stay and can only stay here 30 days/year.  Reservations are through ReserveAmerica and we are usually booked every weekend, holiday and summer 7 months in advance.  In the winter months you can usually get a space during the week but may not be beachfront, although all spaces are close to water.  Winter weather is 70s during the day and 50s at night.  Sometimes foggy or overcast but mostly sunny.  We could be so lucky as to get some rain !!!
Come visit with us !!!! Some sites are much more accessible to big rigs than others so we'll help you decide where you want to be.

Hi,
Your in metro LA, it's all heavy traffic, all the time, 24/7. But that aside, you shouldn't have any problem getting there, it's all highway, and you'll easily fit anywhere in the campground. The setting is wonderful, the beach and ocean is right in front of you and there's a 10 mile bike path right along the beach. When we stayed there last spring it was only $28 for full hookup, I wouldn't go anywhere else in LA.
