Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hand, Foot and Butt

We just learned Hand and Foot this year, we've played Canasta for years and it is similar.  So how do you get the BUTT part?  Are there 3 piles of 11?  Do you use only 4 decks?  Do you still need 2 natural piles and 3 spoiled piles to go out?  And the person going out has no discards and the partner has to be in their Butt pile before you can go out??  Always like to expand a good game.  Thank you Howard......Karebear.

I don't know if I'm qualified to answer this question.  smile

There are so many variations and rules on this game.

Here is a website that lists variations based on responses from over 500 people that play:

Hand & Foot Variations

Of course it doesn't help me much here, since there is no mention of a "Butt".  smile

The way my folks play it:
Yes, there are three piles of 11.
They use something like sixteen decks of cards to keep from having to shuffle so often.
They play so that you only have to have one natural canasta and one spoiled canasta to go out.
They don't care if you have a discard or not to go out.
The partner doesn't have to be in either the Foot or Butt pile to go out.
They play that you MUST ask your partner before going out.

The big thing, however, is the third pile of 11 that you have to get rid of to go out.  If you have that and enough cards, it can be played under any other rules you are used to.  smile
