Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Chat Room - Poll About Scheduled Discussions

Hi Everyone!

Lots of folks are taking advantage of the free-flow of the Chat Room and having a great time.

But I want to crank up the use of the Chat Room.  Our intent all along was to use it for live, organized information exchange and seminars.  So here is what I want to know.

What topics would our Forum members be interested in talking about first?

How frequently should we do this?  Once a week, Once every two weeks, or Once a month?

What day of the week would be best for a scheduled chat?

What time of day would be best?

Of course we reserve the right to change dates, days, times, and frequency at any time.  biggrin

As always, thanks for your input!

Hello Howard,

How about "Selling your stick house" as a topic? I think most of us have had to sell their house prior to fulltining and there must be a lot of good info on this topic from its members.

I like the idea of organizing some focused discussions in chat.  Since those of us who are there most evenings seem to enjoy our freeflow conversations, maybe setting aside one evening a week to start would be a good idea.  Taking into consideration the time differences across the country, maybe 8:30 Central Time would work for most people.

Some topics I'd like more information about incude planning travel routes, how people research campgrounds, budgeting, electronics (cell siganl amplification, HD TV, satellite and air card internet, etc.), maintenance of systems, places to see and things to do.  Other ideas could include dealing with diet and exercise on the road, socializing, the emotional aspects of being on the road.

Thanks for bringing this up!

Happy Travelssmile
Ellie

Ellie and Jim have some great topics, Dave as well. I would be interested in any/all of them. Evenings are best, any day of the week because now days of the week don't make much difference to me! Can you hear me chuckling and know that I am on the road now as a fulltimer too?

Trip planning...Campgrounds along the way....Places to see. So many of you have traveled routes that many would liket to follow. I think gathering all that information together would result in a fun tour. Chat could bring this all together for many of us.

For those who either can't do the chats (speed, bandwidth, time, etc) or those who miss ones they might be interested in, I'd love to see chat transcripts of the scheduled discussions offered.

This sounds like a great idea if Howard could post somewhere the Topic ahead of time so those of us who would be interested in a certain one could get into chat and learn.  Also keeping to the "topic" as so to speak an not get off on another...maybe a calander posted with the topic would be of help, that way we would know before each one gets on.

Ellie is right on.  She has a lot of good suggestions and one night a week would be a great start.  A time for all time zones could be a problem but 8:30 or 9:00 central time should support most.  The eastern people would have to stay up after it is "dark under the table" smile!!!

Some great suggestions so far.  But I want to hear more from the Wannabes & Gonnabes on topics of interest.  smile

Chime in folks!  Nowhere else that I know of gives you this kind of opportunity.  smile

It looks like we may try to start out with a once a week chat.  I'd prefer Friday nights, but that may be better for those of us already full-timing than those that aren't yet.  Please let us know all preferences.  We can always change the nights around.

Once we decide on days, times, topics, etc. there will be plenty of notice via the Journal, postings here in the Forum, and notices on the Chat Room page.  The more participation we have, the better the chats will be.  smile

Froggi, I'll check into the "transcripts" idea.  I think it can be done, but I'll have to see how much additional work it is for yours truly.  smile

Let's get this started!  biggrin

We're gonnabes beginning in 2009.

Here are some suggestions we have:
1. I'm looking for information on organizing (not by strong suit).
2. Linda has some good ideas about using hook and loop tape for posters and cork boards.
3. Online photo storage.
4. Internet usage has been discussed but more couldn't hurt.
5. This may sound crazy but "How to back up and park an RV" Many gonnabes don't have much experience with this. Suggestions about the best position for the camper (5er in our case) before backing into a camping space would be of great help.

Froggi's request for transcripts would be great. They also could be of use for a future book, Howard.

One night a week would be great. Friday is OK with me and reminders are always helpful.

Just our 2-cents.

We would like to hear about tips on hooking up to the 5er, backing into CG sites, parents that don't want us to be gone for long periods of time, feeling guilty for not being there for the events of our grandchildren, etc.  Plus all of the above.

I know finances and budget has been done extensively, but I would love to sit in on a discussion of fulltiming while not being completely debt free. I hear a lot of stories of people who have paid off all debts and paid cash for their rigs. I would love to hear some stories of those that don't start out "so blessed" and how they exist in the fulltiming world.

I would enjoy hearing of current fulltimers experiences surrounding the purchase of their new motorhomes. From what I have read, there is a more or less 30% discount possible off of the MSRP of new motorhomes. Have any RV-Dreams members achieved this? weirdface

We agree with Lois as those are topics we would like to see discussed as well.   Also, tips on finding good campgrounds and things to see and do in various areas.

These gonna be's like Friday nites ...  we can use computer without kicking the 18 yr old off it biggrin.gif .  The topics already talked about are good for us but that may change as we get closer to full time so we like the ones brought up by the fulltimers.  Gale & Anna
