Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Too Quiet here in SOLO-ville

So what's everyone up to? Where are you....let's stay in touch.

For me, not much on the newsfront. The house is still being shown, no offers. Do have one young couple that MIGHT be interested, hoping to hear more this week.

Slowly weeding out clothes....I had NO IDEA of the amount of clothing I had stashed away. It's amazing!

I've started listing some of my furniture in the local online free trader. Sold a dining room hutch and two old dressers this weekend. Ka-ching!

Trying to work on back-up plans in case the house hasn't sold by the end of the month. One thought is to get a small mortgage on the house (it's paid for) and use that to finance my rig, paying it off when the house sells.

Next......smile

Hey Donna
I'm kinda lonely here at the state park.  The weekends are busy but the weekdays leave you talking to yourself!  We are beginning the long hard process of "purging" and I agree with you, where did all this stuff come from?  I must not have thrown anything away in years.  I am a retired teacher and we are known for being pack rats, well I guess I am!!  We are listing our house in a few weeks.  The market is very soft in our area so I don't expect miracles in the next few months.  Hopefully by spring we will have sold.
Have you purchased your rig yet?  If so, what did you get?  If I might ask, what are you going to use for your satellite?  We are having problems with getting reception and we are in an open area.  We have the roof mounted Winegard but it is not automatic.  We are beginning to think Motosat but the cost is huge and wanted to try what we had on the rig first.
Take care and let me hear from you.

For me the stuff question is tougher since I did this all a year ago -- honest! LOL! I had the house sold, three huge yard sales to get rid of everything...was sleeping in a borrowed bed in the guest room and on a folding chair in the living room watching a borrowed tv. Buyer backed out, three months later the house hadn't sold and I'd found a job so took it off the market and bought everything again. Since I went to work, I had to buy a whole new wardrobe for that alone. Now the other "stuff" just not sure where the heck it came from...I'm thinking things are breeding in my house. <g>

I haven't bought my RV yet, it's kind of dependent on the house selling. Since I have DirecTV here in the house, I will move that to the RV (whatever it is). I'd love to find a used rig with a Moto-Sat already there...otherwise, will add it (but still carry the portable dish for when it's needed). When hubby and I full-timed, we only had the Wineguard antenna. Usually could pick up a station or two, usually pretty snowy. Since we were working full-time, the evenings were for relaxing so we opted to get the DirecTV. Hubby did all the setup though....now that I'm a widow, and a not-so-mechanically/technically inclined one, the auto-sat will be almost a necessity.

The housing market is decent here but since I am fairly rural it's nothing like living in a metropolitan area. I figure if it hasn't sold in another month, I'll opt to take out 50% of my equity in a first mortgage and hit the road, paying it off when it sells.

Hi everybody.

I've been meaning to let everybody know how the 4th of July went in Hannibal, MO with Ed and Marilyn and all of the other Workcampers at the Mark Twain Cavern and Campground. However, shortly after that I put my rig in the shop for some 'body work' and took off in my toad to meet my brother in Chattanooga, TN for an e-x-t-e-n-d-e-d road trip. We've been all over the place but I realize how much I liked not having to load and unload suitcases everyday which this hotel/motel life requires. Should be back in my rig by Saturday. I'll update the social scene thread once I'm comfy at 'home' in my rig

Hello Froggi, since arriving to Arizona on July11th, I took a week reorganzing everything in my RV etc, and been checking out the area.  I have a long list of places I want to go just in this area, and hopefully will make it to all of them sooner or later.  I've gone to Bisbee, Tombstone and Sierra Vista checking out the sites, but its something you can't do in one day, so I'm going back several more times.  As I have mentioned before, I'm at an RV park outside Huachuca City which will be my home base. I love this place and the weather here has been pleasant and nothing like Tucson or Phoenix (lucky for me)  smile.gif  I guess in a few months this park will begin to start filling up with snowbirds.  Good Luck with your transition!  Allison

Hello Everybody,

I have another year and a half before my early retirement kicks in. I decide this summer that I would leave the cold winters behind and head down south. I plan to become a full timer. I am in the research stage of the lifestyle and MH’s.

I have looked at a number of MH (used and new) and have decided that Class A is the way to go for my dogs and me. Since I know zip about MH's … length, size, type, etc. I am trying to learn what I can.

The other day I looked at a 36' Fleetwood Arrow Pace 1999 with 30,000 miles on it. It also has a couple of slide outs ... dinning room and back bedroom. It looked like brand new. they bought it new from California. The man developed health problems and can no longer drive the MH. He showed me the entire rig, had all the bills, etc, upgrades he did, etc. The price is $79, 900.00 Cdn. Is this a reasonable price? I told him that this deal is a year too early for me …

I looked on the Fleetwood site and looked at a number of different models they have etc. Since I am unfamiliar with the brand/model/type of HM I am wondering is Fleetwood a good MH?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Jaime

Hello Free Spirit.  The NADA value on a 1999 35' Pace Arrow with two slides is about $50,000, or a bit more, as I am sure it has more options that could be added that you didn't mention:
http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-25-38-5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=25&p=38&f=5698&m=0173&d=2200024906&y=1999&ml=P&gc=RV&gtc=MH

They also list a 37' Pace Arrow, that could be the one you were looking at.  I sold my 36' Airstream MH, as I felt that it was too big for just me, my dog and cat.  I find the smaller ones are easier to handle, and get around in.

Have you looked into some of the smaller bus conversions, yes, even the fancy Provost, is a really a bus conversion ?  They are built to go a million miles, not like a MH, and a lot sturdier.  Do a search for the Bus Conversion sites, and you will see what I mean.   They are made of steel ribs, and not just wooden studs, covered in aluminum, like a lot of the lower end MHs.  weirdface   I felt a lot more comfortable driving a bus conversion, that I did a regular Class A.  But to each his own, that why they make different rigs.    Happy Trails.   Penny, TX

Hello LakeConroePenny,

Thanks for the info I will check it out. I am always game to look at all my options as there is no hard and fast rule when it comes to buying something that expensive. I want to learn all I can before making such a big investment.

I haven't looked at any smaller conversions yet but certainly will keep my eyes open.

Cheers,

Jaime

If anyones close I would love to sit with a cup of coffee and talk travels. The COE has been great to solo workamp for keep that in mind if you ever want to sit still for 6 months . It has been a tough year but, after the divorice it should get better. It is just getting there. And there is no better place to heal then and nice quiet campground. Happy travels to all . Sara

Sara, keep reminding me where you are as I post my travel westerly. I have no real routing but will leave the Atlanta area around Oct 1st and start slowly westward. (Of course this is all assuming I have my RV by then....LOL!) Love to meet for a cuppa and some chatting!

Momshobbies05 (Sara),
I'm camping at Eureka,Mo for a couple of more weeks. I'm not sure but I think that Hermitage may be about 150 miles west of here. I would be glad to take the toad and visit. Do you have an exact address that I can plug into my GPS? If not maybe just some directions.
Scott

You can always tell those out there who have lived a long time in the east. I was born and raised in west Texas where it is not that unusual to travel 150 to 200 miles to get to the next town. Besides my whole travel method so far has been to park my rig in a campground and travel far and wide by toad to see the sights. I haven't been to that stretch of Missouri yet and if it is anything like the rest of the state I bet it is beautiful. I'll try to get by tomorrow.

Sara,

Got back fine thank you. It was really a pleasure to meet you and well worth the distance traveled. I admire your spunk--I mean 3 kids and yet there you are workcamping a C.O.E. campground/park solo all summer. I also once again wanted to say how nice that park is.

This is one thread on the solo forum that begs continued updates since I am sure that all of us out there are no longer where we were back in early September. I checked my own last entry and note that I was still in Eureka. MO. Since then I have traveled to the Elkhart/Goshen area in Indiana (the fall Escapade), Delaware, OH (just north of Columbus), and am now settled into a KOA in Myrtle Beach,SC.

As far as social activities in camp, they started up a coffee and donut hour on Monday mornings and Bingo on Tuesday and Thursday nights early in November. They have posted an announcement for a Thanksgiving diner on the 22nd but I will be heading out for Prospect, OH in my toad on Tuesday to spend that holiday with my ex-sister-in-law, her new husband, and my nephew. I understand that the person or persons who organize the campfires and pot lucks is due to get in in December so we may see those activities at that time. I will be spending Christmas week at someplace called the Chateau on the Lake in Branson, MO with my eldest brother, my two nieces, and, once again, my nephew.

I arranged to stay here in Myrtle Beach until early January. As that time approaches I will consider my options. Any suggestions?

I've been remiss in updating here as well....but really not a whole lot to update. <g> I left the house for the last time on 10/26 and headed to Elkhart, IN to get some service work done. Due to parts delays, for the most part, I am still here. Today should be my "shove-off" day but I'm beginning to wonder...LOL!

Anyway, once I leave here I plan to head to Hollister, MO for a week. I'll park the rig, rent a car and drive to Madison, SD to get my mail as well as my drivers license (all my tags are already done).

After my time in Hollister I will head south....somewhere in TX, as yet decided...for the month of December.

Hi Froggi,

Sorry you're getting the chills up there, hope you get to head south soon. I am in Louisiana, going to spend the holidays in Mississippi near my kids.

I said goodbye to the sticks and bricks on 10/22, and every day since has felt like vacation. Even though I still have to make money.

After Mississippi I will be heading for Texas too, what area are you going to be in? Or is it a spot that you will recognize when you see it :).

Vee

Still working on the "where" in TX....right now it looks like I might do it weekly. Dallas area first, then Houston area, then San Antonio area (might do two weeks there), then on to Big Bend area where I will stay until I head towards "Q".

Of course this is all just JELL-O plans.....LOL!

I'm in Hollister, MO right now (just outside Branson). Get the rental car in the morning and head to SD to get my drivers license and mail (wish I could squeeze in a haircut first....LOL!), back here on Wed and will have turkey with the other campers here (lots of Escapees).

Froggie..not sure where else to post this...could not find on your blog for comments (probably just me) but wanted to let you know that we feel your loss.  We have lost pets that way although thankfully never witnessed it.  I know words won't help as this time but it will be better.   Anna

Thank you, I appreciate it. Today was tough...picked up my mail in SD and in it were the name tags I ordered for BoBo. Sigh...

Hi Froggi,  I just heard about it in the Chatroom.  I am so sorry for your loss.
Just as everything was going your way.  God must have needed him.  He will be waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge.  Hugs, Penny, TX  PS: tell me when you will be in the Houston area, please.
