Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello Folks

Well today was the day....unemployed for the first time in 47 years. First let me introduce ourselves.  We are Fay and Jay from Tulsa.  We have been planning this day for over a year and now its here.  We have been lurking on this and other forums and occasionally ask questions.
I retired from the city after 33 years as a Police Officer and Equipment Mgr. Fay's last day is Dec 20. (school is out) We still have some loose ends to gather up but will be headed to Texas by the first of the year.
The house still has not sold but that is not going to stop us. We plan to be in Q for the RV Show and meet with the Class of 07.
First, I would like to thank Howard and Linda for the time and effort that they put into this forum, with out their and each of your contributions we would not have had the courage to undertake this adventure.
We have been campers for years in everything from tents, slide-in and even a horse trailer with a built in camper.
Fay is the horse person, hopefully we can find places where she can bring her horse.

Thanks, Fay and Jay...Hope to see you on the road...

Welcome Jay and Fay, you about to experience the best time of your life! Though I did not see anyone with horses in Q it certainly would be a great place to take a horse I would think except for the terrain, it is certainly not sand but looks to be lava rock. Most of it is small but there are some large pieces there. Anyway, the rv show is great and some fantastic deals can be found. Try to arrive early at least a few days before the show as traffic is pretty heavy. Certainly do not try to arrive during the show by going thru Quartzsite unless you plan on sitting for quite a while. We were camped south of town about 3 miles and the traffic was backed up past our entrance to the BLM! Pretty much that way most of the day. So arrive early and when you head to the show it is easier to pull into the last BLM area right before the south side of Q and walk to the show, that will only be a couple hundred of yards away. DO NOT park on the road, the locals survive off the ignorance of people who can not read the signs that say NO PARKING ON ROAD! They bring troopers in to keep up with the tickets, you will see when you get there. For some reason some people think the signs don't apply to them. More than anything else it is a hazzard, the traffic is so bad that if an emergency vehicle needs to get thru they can not due to the cars lining the side of the road and the traffic on the road. Risking your or someone else's safety for the sake of parking is not worth it.

Hi Jay and Fay,

I'm a newbie too and have been on the road now for nearly two weeks. Getting all the loose ends tied up was a challenge, but here I am! Like you, my house has not sold and I'm not letting that stop me. It will sell at the right time, I'm sure. In the meantime . . . I'm hoping to be at Quartzsite as part of the class of 2007 as well.

Good luck in making it happen,
Vee

Hi Kelly & Al:

You may have found out by now but I am sure that the "Class of 07" is those folks who start their full timing adventures in the year 2007, and "Q" is short for Quartzite, AZ.  Don't feel bad.  I had to think about the "Q" for a while myself.  idea

It's an Escapee thing...Class of 2007

It started informally in 2005, was continued in 2006 and now 2007. The classes of 2008-2010 are already forming. smile I'm an "honorary" member of 2006 since that was when I almost made it full-time. Now I am a Class of 2007 member and will be in Q as well. Email me if you have any questions (and I LOVE your blog, btw).

Thanks Froggi, we had quite a first week .... big search at U.S. Border, awning getting rippedoff in BIG Kansas winds, Al's tick bite, then kidney stone.... I was beginning to wonder if I could take 5 months of it !!.
We will be at Quartzite at some point. Wish we had a RV-Dream flag or sticker or something to recognize you all.
Ciao,
Kelly

I know...the awning tale really freaked me out! Being a solo, not sure what I would have or even could have done. EEeeeK!

We need to see if Howard has any plans for a sticker, if not and he has a large image file for the graphic header here, I can upload it to my CafePress.com site and make a bumper sticker we could all get.

Welcome Jay and Fay.  We tried to reply a few days ago but lost our reply before it was sent and was too frustrated to do it again that night.  We are living in our fifth wheel fulltime but are still working at our jobs until the end of May '08 so we will  be in the class of '08.  We are horse people too but because of physical limitations we decided to sell our horses, farm, land and everything to start into this new way of life.  We miss the trail riding and horse camping but have no regrets as to our decision to hit the road, just trying to be patient about our start date.  We too started our camping in a tent then went to cleaning out our two horse bumper- pull to camp in, then finally moved up to a three horse aluminum with living quarters.  Our friends could not believe that we could give up the horse life style and we had a hard time believing it ourselves but we are going for it.  We plan on doing volunteer work : church building and maybe habitat for humanity etc. to retire with a purpose. We wish you the best and hope to see you on the road.
Happy Trails,
Allan and Jeanne

Allen and Jeanne, our stories are about the same, small world. We sold our farm about 6 years ago and moved to town. We just were not happy here. Fay did keep one horse and boards him out.

Our house has not sold but we are going anyway. We are leaving Dec. 26 for Quartsite and after that to South Texas till the weather warms up.

We are going to attempt to find places that Fay can bring her horse Hope to see you on the road.....

Jay and Fay
