Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Ok, so I will admit, I am totally, uncontrollably obsessed with full timing. I work at Falls Park in Sioux Falls, Sd. There are a lot of RV's going in and out of the park and while I am at work I have to hop in my truck and go drive by them all! So if you're ever traveling through Falls Park and see this crazy lady...
Day 1 refrigerator came open some things spilled. Picked up a screw in our 5er tire. Bought a long child safety lock for fridge. Got to tire store before they closed and they put on spare. Day two arrived in CA and refrigerator & freezer spilled all over floor. 2 hour clean up. Had great 3 day visit wit...
If one wants to put this into perspective, watch the first half-hour of "Saving Private Ryan" and then remember that the horror of that movie doesn't equal the reality of the actual event. I recently had the opportunity to visit the USS Batfish Memorial in Muskogee, Oklahoma and see the c...
I just picked up parts and got to thinking while I was sitting in a 45 minute traffic jam due to an accident. I'm replacing the springs, equalizer, hardware, wheel bearings, brakes and other axle parts this weekend. The tires only have one trip on them. Basically I will have a brand new 5th wheel as co...
Trying to find some OnStar type alternative to work in my 9 year old Fleetwood is challenging, and they all use cell phone lines anyways, which have big dead zones all over. So, I was thinking, what about old fashioned CB radios for calling in emergencies? Is that something that can be done? How would yo...
I drove through both Moore and El Reno, OK this week. The visible damage is enormous. As we sit back in the relative comfort of our rigs, think about the hundreds whose homes were literally blown away, and are depending on relief agencies for everything. Gang, an extra 10 bucks on your phone bill ain't...
we do this all the time over on the horse boards, put out what we're looking for and those so inclined find candidates and we all have a grand time discussing them and why or why not they might be suitable. if this is normal here hurray!! if not no biggie. but just in case---- we're going to be ready to buy in...
Very new to these forums, like today. We don't even have a TT yet, but plan on buying before the end of the year. I have read almost every forum here and sometime I am edgy and sometime seem to "cannot wait". Never done any traveling with a RV or camping. Both hubby and I will be retired by nex...
I read somewhere, but can't remember on which forum, that water softeners can harm the plumbing system in some manner. Then someone remarked that they just added Calgon to the water. I'm trying to find that post again because I would really like a water softener but not if it is going to mess up any of t...
OK, I am having some lock frustrations; the fresh water compartment lock doesn't work anymore, and is impossible to get? You actually have to buy a whole new white plastic assembly? Are you kidding me? OK, more complaining... the 2004 Fleetwood Fiesta was cleverly designed to make it impossible to p...
Tears and fears - not mine, it's our kids. Thought we had "eased" them into our plans to hit the road just as we have eased into it . . . downsized and lived in a tent one summer, then moved into our pickup camper. We've been camphosts for four years at a small campground, but it's time to pull up...
Advice from experienced 5th wheel owners, I'm trying to get my 5th wheel level in towing; Trailer is connected with weight on truck. What makes it different is that I have a AIRSAFE hitch 25K and the trailer can move up and down about 3" what's nice is that I can't even feel the trailer; http://www...
I am Marlena of Florida. Happy to have discovered this community. Need guidance in purchasing our first used 5th wheel. Thanks, Marlena -- Edited by Marlena on Tuesday 28th of May 2013 06:35:20 AM
Finally, after all the painting, cleaning, purging (still some more of that to do), repairs, etc, etc. our house will finally be on the market tomorrow. Today we need to finish organizing the garage and hopefully the rain will stop so we can mow the yard. Our agent thinks the house will sell pretty...
Hey all, vigilant lurker here. I own a small traveling art gallery (I do art shows, music fests, and other trade shows) and recently went through quite a bit of changes. From traveling the country in a kidnapper van, to settling and trying a brick-and-mortar store, to back up and on the road again. How...
Hello everyone I'm John 58 and will start fulltime next June or July 2013 as a solo, I;m in the process of getting everything put together for my adventure, I just sold some property a few weeks ago and will be able to get myself out of debt and pay cash for a RV. The next step will be selling my home after the f...
Has anyone tried to remove the seat in the crew cab from an F450? Any tips or suggestions? We've decided we need the storage room for some of the items we use in Dale's booth for art shows that we really don't want getting wet. Some things we can store in the bed of the truck without a problem, but not ever...
This is a totally funny, real life video where a van dwelling guy has a female friend inspect his rig before he brings his girl friend in. (Valley girl voice) "Ooooo! What is this? Do you really need it? Why? It's disgusting, it's going in the trash... " http://youtu.be/ynyVp6jtPME Edit by...
this is my only second post but been reading for several months. We will full time within the next 6 months to 2 years...hopefully. like everyone it seems like we debate MH vs. 5th wheel and we know there is no right answer but an individual thing.
we have made progress tho... We pretty much know our MH an...
I purchased a 30' 5th wheel ( Gulfstream Seahawk ) . I believe the weight is 8700 lbs. i needed a truck I could pull it with and so I purchased this 3/4 ton Chevy with a 6.0 liter gas engine . I know most everyone says to go diesel but I just can't afford the initial expense much less the costly repairs. Correct...
Terry and Jo, we are sitting here watching the horrible weather in real time in Oklahoma. How are things with you? Are you able to report to us? Are you both O.K.?
I wasn't sure where to put this but I have been on this site about 2 years, but haven't been very active lately. I was an RV'er(living at an RV park), getting ready to go on the road but never did. I had two RVs, but long story short I don't have either anymore. Right now I am looking to go to a campsite where...
I know this is very specific to each rig, but has anyone added a larger fresh tank, and is that hard or expensive? I've been going over the owner's manual on my Fleetwood Fiesta 26Q, and it only has a 30 gallon fresh tank. (All the other Fiesta models have 60)
Anyone a Charles Schwab customer who opened their account after going nomadic, who uses a mail forwarding service as their address with them? How'd you get around their verification process? I am being denied ability to be added to my mom's account as a power of attorney because they can't verify a...
Found this link for an interesting idea for securing portable generators. Anyone ever use anything like this? http://www.nooutage.com/59055.htm Marilyn
Well folks, Sue finally got a break this weekend from the camp office and store and we decided to get out of Dodge....We headed 35 minutes north to Newburgh, NY and checked out one of the coolest and best museums we have come across in a lone time (expect for the RV museum in Elkhart, In). It is called Motor...
I picked up my new truck on Monday! It is a GMC 3500 SLT DRW in white. We will have no problem with weight with this set-up. I thought about single rear wheel for awhile but the trailer weight is close to the max for that model and thought it best to have a larger margin for safety's sake. I'm thrilled to b...
We have a 2003 F350 SRW with a 6.0L. According to Trailerlife.com, our max fifth wheel weight cannot exceed 13,300 lbs., though I have also read it is 12,200. Not sure who's right. Gross capacity for the truck, according to what we can find, is 20,000 lbs. The empty weight of the truck alone is 6,372. Add...
We haven't started the RV life but will within this year. We have two cats that will be joining up, and they are currently indoor cats but at least one of them would like to be outside occasionally. Any recommendations on cat harnesses that you found work well, not only in preventing the cat from getti...
