Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Why do I feel like this transition started years ago; like maybe the day I was born? This full time RV living idea rose up in my mind on my 52nd birthday (that was this past Monday btw), but I don't think I could stop it from becoming my reality any more than I could stop the sun from rising! It feels so-o-o r...
We are still at Double Lake; been here since Saturday. It was snowing in Austin at 8:30 this morning and here we may get up to 4" by Weds morning! The 5er is snug and we are comfy. We both love this rig! We will try and get home tomorrow. Posting this with cell phone; will post more once home. Dave just sa...
I wonder if some of you out there might post your favorite picture of your RV parked against your favorite backdrop? This would give us stuck in our bricks and sticks something to stare at and picture ourselves in :) -- Edited by TheHensons on Thursday 18th of February 2010 01:43:35 PM
As many of you know our plan is to fly one way to Indiana from NY, pick up our Rig, and drive to the Rally. Two weeks later we will go directly to our seasonal site in Upstate NY. Should i request dealer plates from the dealer in OK, or can i register here in NY, Bring the plates with me. Thanks, Gene
Hello all, We are Paul & Brenda from Salem Oregon. We have owned a few RV's over the years, but now call our 2nd home a 37ft Carriage 5th wheel. We are Thousand Trails members, and spend as much time as we can on the Oregon coast. (Whalers Rest, and Pacific City). Beautiful campgrounds, but then again...
I know Good Sam has ERS, i think Camping World offers it also, what do you have for ERS protection, and what does it cover? Additionally i am interested in getting an extended warranty, i believe both companies mentioned above offer extended warranties, what does everyone use, thanks Gene
Last weekend, I posted questions regarding the items we were considering on deleting in order to get the price of the Mobile Suites 38TKSB3 down a little more.I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who responded with such valuable comments.I have come to value the opinions of all of yo...
Just thought I would pass some good advice / information along. If you need to change your trailer tire due to being flat / blowout / just needs changing for whatever reason. Use whatever you use for leveling out your trailer with.Personally, I carry (3) 2"X8"X5' boards for leveling ou...
We are the Gilmores, Bob is retiring in March and Jacki retiring in May. We will be traveling with our two shelties, Mollie and Pralines. We plan on hitting the road the first of June, making our first trip to Dallas. Our daughter is expecting in early June and we want to be available to babysit Addie,...
We're in the process of upfitting a 3500 Dodge Ram cab and chassis. I am trying to determine the ideal hitch height for my 5th wheel plate as there will be no height adjustment. The only adjustment I will have will be on the actual 5th wheel RV. I am guestimating that my plate needs to be about 50-52 inch...
Hi all Well it's time to pull the trigger and buy our new home. We have narrowed it down between the Cameo 36 cksls and the Select Suites 36 Tk3. We will also be purchasing a new Ford F450 or 550 either a left over 2010 or the redesigned 2011. A lot of analysis yet to come on that. I would like to know from people...
Hello all, We are staying at St. George Island renting a house and we thought it would be nice to talk to any fulltimers that may be in our area. Anyone close by?? Dixie
Here's our new blog. We hope to be fulltimers soon (as soon as the house sells). I started the blog now to share some of our experiences getting to the fulltime status. Hopefully, it might help others contemplating the lifestyle. http://rvkhroniclesofkevelyn.blogspot.com/ Not sure how to mak...
A question for the community, the seasonal site that we are interested in has a 30 Amp Service, the owners said that we can upgrade the service to 50 amp for a fee a $375. Do we need a 50 amp service? and is it normal for the renter to pay for a site improvement that the owner will benefit from long after we are g...
We have a 2007 Silveradoo 5.3 L with towing package, 2 wheel drive, club cab. At present we are pulling a 28.9 travel trailer Toy Hauler (2009) KZ, weighing in at approx. 6300 lbs. . It handles pretty good. An old back injury has flared up and it looks like my biking days are over. We are now looking at a 5t...
Has anyone considered towing doubles. I have seen lots of doubles pulled but I have never talked to anyone that has pulled doubles. I am wanting to pull 4,000 lb jeep behind 40' 5th wheel. I know that I would need to make modifications to frame of 5th wheel to carry side thrust. Thanks Clayton
I do not own an RV but have vacationed in them several times via a rental and enjoyed the heck out of them. I would like some advice from you folks about a trip to Alaska that I am planning for June-2010. I want to visit Denali and Kenai National Parks. Will be flying into Anchorage. I always use Frommers...
Our truck does not currently have mud flaps, but I'm assuming that this is something well worth the investment to protect the front of the 5er. So first of all, is that a correct assumption? Secondly, are certain types of mudflaps better? I've seen the standard ones which go right behind the wheel an...
I saw a posting under Chit Chat about Dutch Oven cooking. Having come from a Boy Scouting family and doing a lot of camping, we do a fair amount of Dutch Oven cooking. However, we do not do it over a camp fire--instead we use charcoal under the Dutch Oven and on the top. In order to hold t...
A few weeks ago I posted that we had accepted an offer on our house and were to close on March 31st. After a roller coaster year of trying to sell our house, we finally thought we were almost on the road to fulltiming. Last Monday it all fell apart. In our 4 counter offers, the buyers verbally agreed to ac...
I tried finding something on this topic via the search function, but couldn't find anything. I probably just used the wrong "search phrase". In regards to the washing machine and dryer, Jo likes to have the doors open opposite each other so that she doesn't have to take clothes from the wa...
We have a fifth wheel that has two 12v batteries and an Onan 5500 propane generator. We haven't tried boondocking yet so I'm trying to anticipate how it'll go. Does anyone have any idea on how long fully charged batteries will last in between re-charges when running an average amount of lighting &...
Just a heads up to those of you with DirecTv service. I called yesterday to change my service address like I have done multiple times in the past. I like to receive the local stations from where we are parked. Now I find out that DirecTv will no longer change your service address, for any reason. This c...
We have noticed many post about the RV furniture and replace of. We understand about the decor and RV furniture thing. We decided to make a few changes to our fifth wheel before we become fulltimers. The following is some of the changes we have made to our fifth wheel. We removed the uncomfortabl...
We're so excited to start full timing next month, so have been catching up on all the entries regarding cats. Regarding the hole-in-the-wall litter box; we did something like that in our home cutting a hole through the mudroom wall into the garage, building a platform, enclosing the litterbox in a w...
