Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I am finding homes for most of my English Pointers so I can go on the road. They are great dogs and this has been emotional. I am trying to get down to two, might want to try to take three with me. Actually, four would be better. Crazy, isn't it! We want to split our time between a nice fishing camp and spe...
Since inverters with 50 amp transfer switches are not available anymore, inverter subpanels have to be installed in 50 amp rigs. My question is: Couldn't I avoid the subpanel by using an external automatic 50 amp transfer switch that powers the main panel by switching between shore power/gene...

Less than a year and a half till we hit the road. We have the rigs and are already beginning the chore of downsizing the household. Will put the house on the market this May. Looking forward to a rally in the Pacific Northwest....hint..hint.
We keep our 5er plugged in even at home. Now we are living in it in FL and the 12v lights go dim after being on for awhile. Could it be a bad battery or a bad power supply?
Today in Chat I was asked a Question that got me thinking(It Hurt!!) Someone asked how to find a stud to mount his BBQ to the side of his fiberglas RV...... Is it just me , why would you mount a fire waiting to happen on the side of your unit......High heat and fiberglas dont mix BBQ should be atleast 5 ft fro...
My name is Mike and I have been married to my wife Debbie for almost 38 years. I retired from a south Florida Sheriff's Dept. after 26 years of service in 2010. Upon retiring we hit the road with our 5th wheel and began work camping. We are presently work camping in North Carolina and are really enjoying o...
Hello. I'm not sure this is the best place to post this question, but here goes. My husband and I, along with our dog, hope to be arriving in the Houston, TX area late February/early March. We're currently in Costa Rica and own absolutely nothing in the U.S. at the present time. Since we have decided...
Need to have complete access to the internet for work .. work from home - my usage is approx 50 GB per month. At home I have Verizon Fios and a couple of air cards I use when I have to travel for work. I may also have to log on to a client's VPN from time to time. I have never had issues so far because most work rela...
Has anyone had experience with switching out the standard TV that comes with most units prior to 2008 with a LCD or plasma flat screen? How did you do it and what modifications to the cabinet did you have to make? thanks.
In regards to the older post quoted below relating to composting toilets, I recall that while living in Mariposa County near Yosemite a couple decades ago, there was a proposal by a Canadian strip-mining company to mine fine gold that was met with further plans as to how to fill the resulting gash in th...
After months and months (and seemingly) months of looking & lurking we bought a bus for full timing today!!! DH & I are so excited and overwhelmed all at the same time. Our "new" home is a 1993 Foretravel Grand Villa Unihome - 40 footer! What a bus she is - we will undoubtedly be her...
This improvement has really changed the way we utilize a corner cabinet. This cabinet is about 18" across the back, 14" on the side, It is a Right Triangle. The whole cabinet has always been a challenge to use. My wife came up with the idea for a coffee station. The cabinet had no electric or li...
Need to post this here, and in the general forum. It shows how your brain can get addled when thinking too much about getting into RVing ... Jo and I were out looking at camping sites and checking up on available amenities and how other campers cope when they pull in with an RV. We also looked at adjacent bo...
I called Tim and Chrystal @ Inflatable Boats 4 Less and ordered a new SE-370 this morning. Wanted to let everyone know they have a sale going on with used/demo units. They carry the full 3 year warranty of a new unit, have been tested for leaks and have no patches. The SE 370's (deluxe pkg) they have li...
Is my understanding correct, the 5 gb limit is for download only? Does uploading a blog count as anything on Verizon's wireless? Also, is it feasible to tether a Droid x to a laptop? Thanks for your help.
Hello everyone I am looking at a 2005 Jayco Designer 38 RDQS . The unit is in great shape and has very little miles towed. Has one a/c and no generator. Does anyone have info. or experience on the unit? Thanks in advance!
I found a site that sends me a daily email with select free kindle books. Go to ereadernewstoday.com and give it a look. Have a blessed day! Edited by Terry Miller 1-22-12 at 6:09pm CDT - fixed link. -- Edited by Terry and Jo on Sunday 22nd of January 2012 06:09:19 PM
I've done a bit of research on this and haven't found out that there's an obvious right answer. Connie and I will be going full time next summer. We're currently residents of VA and she will probably continue to work remotely for one of the colleges here so we'll owe VA state income tax on her pay. The gene...
Trying to figure out if I should carry a gun or not. I know a lot of states have different rules so I have to consider that as well. If you do what type do you carry?
DH and I, (still waiting to sell house) were leaning very heavily towards a 36'+ fifth wheeler when we're ready to hit the road full time. However, in giving some thought to the possible "day in the life" practicalities, we're not sure 1) we'll be able to stay in as many places as we'd like wi...
DH and I made the decision last year (2011) to sell the house and full time. We've attended 1 rally and 2 RV shows so far (another one this weekend in NJ). Been doing all kinds of research about every possible detail (thanks very much to everyone here in the forums and Linda & Howard, without whom I'...
I have been lurking around on this web page for at least two years, digesting the all the information on Dave and Linda's budget, planning, working on the road info, etc. I have found it very encouraging; but, always felt a little apprehensive, they are trying to sell this lifestyle and other things...
Hello RV Dreams Forum members, I have been a regular reader of Howard and Linda's journal for about 4 and a half years. During that time my wife (Judy) and I have been full-time wannabes planning our eventual departure date. Heck, we didn't have a RV of any type. If all goes well we will be living in our new...
I don't know if there are already threads about this topic, but I couldn't find any. Does anyone have a washer and dryer installed in their RV? We don't but we are really looking into it. It just doesn't make sense to re-wear dirty clothes on our long trips. If you do have one installed can you tell me your e...
We are making plans for our first winter trip, Have one week reserved in aTexas campground to thaw out the camper and will play the rest as it goes. I have a honda 3000 generator , should I bring it? We are in a 28 ft 5er.
I wanted to bring up something that most people would never think about: FEMA Disaster Housing Inspections. My husband did this years ago (in 2002-2005) and if you have intelligence, endurance, some real estate or definitely construction knowledge would be helpful and the ability to learn, one c...
