Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Does anyone carry a gun in your RV

Trying to figure out if I should carry a gun or not.  I know a lot of states have different rules so I have to consider that as well.  If you do what type do you carry?

I will have one hidden in the tow vehicle and camper when we hit the road fulltime.  I can't remember ever going camping and not taking a gun for protection, thank god I haven't needed it.  I will try to be respectful of local and state laws but I refuse to let myself or my family be the victim of some thug/criminal.

Read this article, it seems this couple had 3 weapons but obviously they didn't have a chance to grab the gun or this story would have been totally different.

Tony,

Here is a good source for a lot of information here in the RV Dreams forums in regards to using something for self defense.

Should We Think About Carrying a Gun

In that thread, you will find a lot of information on alternatives to having a firearm.  Beyond the need to know the gun laws of various states that you might travel through/stay in, if you should decide to travel to Canada, no handguns are allowed.  So, if you have handguns, you would need to leave them somewhere until your return.

As for Jo and I, we have "more than one", and one of ours is a Taurus Judge, which is capable of firing both .45 Long Colt ammunition or .410 gauge shotgun shells.  Using the .410 would limit the distance/penetrating power of the projectiles, should we miss our intended target.

Its a decision or a choice. But you can't rely on the LEO, all the time. When at home base we are 15 miles from the nearest Sheriffs office.. But I will protect my family and for sure had rather "Have 12 people judge me that to have 6 people carry me". However if your going to have a weapon make sure you have professional training and get yourself a C/C permit. Most normal States
C/C permits are easy to obtain. I never owned a handgun until I retired from the Army. I never realized how much violence there are in the civilian side.... If you plan on traveling to Canada, make sure you understand their Gun laws... Happy Trails...

P.S. The percentage's of C/C permit are increasing as never before.. Does that indicated something??? I also have never had a need for a weapon in any RV park we have stayed in. However we do no boon docking or wally docking. And do look for gated RV parks...
