Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Thought the boondockers would be interested in a couple bits of news that have just come out here in Elkhart, Indiana.Travel Supreme, which builds high-end fifth-wheels and Class A motorhomes, closed its doors last week, notifying employees that it would be closed until further notice by posting...
We have been looking and researching Fifth Wheels for our eventual retirement and for becoming "Full Time" RVers in February of 2010, for about two years now. We have gone to most of the RV shows in the New England area and most of the dealers. We thought that we had pretty much narrowed dow...
Hi.. My husband and I plan on selling the house next fall and being on the road as soon as possible in January 2009. However, we still haven't decided on an RV...we are thinking either the Excel or Nuwa 5th wheel. We are wondering if it would help us to get to the Perry Georgia Rally. (Unfortuantley we can'...
OK, here goes. After a lot of coaxing by family members and friends, this Blog has been started. It's a little different, but we're hoping that some of you will find it interesting. http://myrddinstravels.blogspot.com
Just found this site tonight and thought I would pass it on. Take a little time to scroll down and play the movies. If you like beautiful scenery and are at all patriotic, you'll really like this site. http://mybeautifulamerica.com/index.htm Enjoy!
Does anyone out there have any advice on cell phones and services? I am with Cingular and use the popular "Razor" phone, however this past weekend I experienced the lousiest service ever!
Howard, I was one who was not able to access the chat room last night and had a thought I wanted to run by you. Have you any experience with Paltalk? (www.paltalk.com) I belong to a very large Yahoo group that uses this site for its meetings as they need to have more structure than a regular chat room. T...
Even though Fulltimers are on an extended vaction lifestyle, do any of you leave the rig and go on a cruise, or fly to Europe for a tour, or take a runaway weekend in Vegas?
Does a break from the day-to-day RV travel ever appeal to you, to help keep the fulltiming living fresh, enjoy...
We are still looking!!!!! A couple of weeks ago we thought we had settled on a new Holiday Rambler. This being such a large decision, we took some of your advise and went looking at late model used ones. A local dealer has a 04 Alpha See Ya with 18 K miles that looks good and at a good price. This is our f...
In the topic "Mail Forwarding," jcw asked about Netflix. We are members of Netflix and absolutely LOVE IT! We have one of the cheaper plans, but it allows us to view movies online if we choose to. We haven't taken advantage of that option yet, just been too busy to do so. However, we love that w...
I understand that mail forwarding services, like Escapees, will send your mail General Delivery to a post office. But if you're going to be staying in a campground for a month or more at a time, it seems more convenient to mail it to the campground. Will a campground accept mail for you? Or will plac...
We've been staying long-term in an RV park near our old sticks&bricks while I finish out my employment (I retire TODAY!!! ).
While here our electricity is metered. Our first couple of bills were up there, around $150. So we've been working on conserving.
Which leads me to my question. It's ab...
I have a feeling this will be our most popular chat so far. Better get there early. The next Scheduled Chat will be Internet On The Road where we will discuss Wi-Fi, Air Cards, Satellite, and other methods for staying connected or getting connected. Jim & Chris Guld from GeeksOnTour.com will...
After a break of a couple of weeks, we will do our next scheduled chat on: Wednesday, December 12 at 9:30 EST, 8:30 CST, 7:30 MST, 6:30 PST We will touch on as many aspects of workamping/volunteering as we can. We will discuss finding positions, what to watch out for, and tax issues in addition to whatev...
It's been a great year, lots of answers to questions and great friendships have been made in the chat room. Thank you Howard for setting up the room. I'm looking forward to a new year and getting closer to fulltime RV'ing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ALL the RV-Dreams members. Jim & Denys...
We want to purchase a motorhome and join the ranks of the fulltimers - however I have a question. As I search the internet for used RV's that match our selection criteria - I find the majority of them are not close to where I am located in the Seattle area. It appears that most are in the southeast or south...
Howard, I would like to know if it is possible for you to do a scheduled chat on the subject of Internet. I know there are a lot of possibilities, with Wi-Fi, Satellite Internet, and others. It would be nice to get some opinions and some feedback on what people think is the best option. Mac and I were thinki...
I will be 60 when I start full-timing next year. I read somewhere about 40% start in their 50's another 40% in their 60's and the remainder varies with age. How about you? How old were you when you started full-timing! Paul Weaver
Hi Howard, I have read all about your satellite tv system and you have mentioned that you TIVO shows a lot. Does Motosat or Directway offer that service or is it through another provider? Do you need special equipment such as a special DVD recorder? I have cable and part of the cable service is being ab...
Some folks from the Online Campers group have been visiting the Chat Room. So they have graciously passed on some rally information for our members that might be interested. Well it's that time of year again, time for the 12 annual ONLINE CAMPERS SMOKEY'S MT. CAMPOUT.WHEN ? APRIL 25, 200...
It's been quite awhile since I've done any hand smacking. But I've recently noticed an increased tendency to get off topic lately. It seems we are having subject changes in the middle of a thread and then replies to the new subject. That clutters things up and annoys folks coming back to their thre...
Hi – I realize that this question was asked almost a year ago over in the Campgrounds and RV Parks forum – but I figured there might be some additional views a year later.
We are heavily leaning towards a motorhome as our rig of choice and have been looking at units right around the 40 foot mark (and have r...
As I think we are closing in on a RV the next area of study is Toads. Our current vehicles are as follows: 1) Lexus 2007 IS 250 AWD - Remco says not towable 2) Lexus 2000 RX 300 AWD - Remco says use Lube pump LP7 The question is if it is worthwhile to equip the rx300 for towing. As I understand it the Lube pump an...
I see where Howard has added an inverter to his 5ver, would be nice to see a step by step procedure with pictures on how he hooked everything up. I know it would be helpful to me.
I'm wanting to purchase a new lap top in anticipation of longer trips, have only had desk tops with DSL hook ups so don't know much about using a lap top on the road. Planning on use for E Mail, on line banking and internet use. Is 512 MB of RAM enough for using WIFI hookups or would it be slower o...
I'm not quite sure where to put this post. Different type of question. When you use a blog to let the home front keep track of you -- who does everyone use -- what pros and cons to yours do you see. If you post pictures which do you see as best? I'm sure I can come up wit...
Hi Howard,
Do you have a sample Excel template for keeping track of: a. miles driven, b. miles pulling 5er, c. MPG truck only, d. MPG towing, ETC, ETC.
Thanks for any info,
Ken Pace
After mooning over the gorgeous pics in today's journal, I needed to make a tangible step on my journey to independence on this July 4th. So I reread most of your financial info page and reviewed your 2007 budget. How often do you enter data? Do you still follow the Dave Ramsey cash is king credo? We did...
