Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

The Rally in Perry Georgia

Hi..
My husband and I plan on selling the house next fall and being on the road as soon as possible in January 2009. However, we still haven't decided on an RV...we are thinking either the Excel or Nuwa 5th wheel. We are wondering if it would help us to get to the Perry Georgia Rally. (Unfortuantley we can't make the RV-Dreams rally.)   So we are looking for any info you can give us on the Rally in Perry Georgia.
Thanks for any help,
Loralie

Greetings, Loralie!

The Rally is most likely the largest single gathering of RVing people during any year.  There are many vendors with anything and everything for sale.  There are many manufacturers of RVs with display models to have the tires kicked.  However due to the large crowds, it may be somewhat difficult to get good one on one time with a representative.  Expressing a serious interest in their product helps.

If you live near their manufacturing facility, a trip their may provide you more information about the product.  You will also be dealing with a factory rep who will know more and possibly be less pushy than a sales type at the show.

Things for you to consider:
How close do you live to the two manufacturers?
Are they near each other so a single trip would get you to both?
Is there a reliable dealer for one or both in your area or reasonably close?
How close are you to Perry, GA?
Why not call the two manufacturers and ask what models they will have on display?
Have them send you literature to be reading.
Check out websites for owners of the two brands.
Check for any information you can about the weight ratings and compare them.
Create a spec for spec spreadsheet on the two brands.

It is too easy to fall in love with the fabric, cabinets and carpet.  Make sure you know what is underneath the visual stimulation and in the walls and roof (insulation).

The one good thing about The Rally, if both manufactures are displaying, even if not the exact model you want, you can go back and forth between the two making comparisons.  Spend time in each - a few hours - and imagine you are living there.  Step into the shower and bend over to pick up a piece of imaginary soap.  A good size shower stall will prove to be one of the more important things on a daily basis.

And most important of all, have fun.  The process is extremely important to select the best RV for you and the best value, but it must be enjoyed!!!

Charles

Hi,
We know that making a decision like this is not easy.  Not really knowing how far Perry, Ga is from Tampa Fl.
LazyDays has a big show in Jan. and they are if not the largest one of the largest dealers in the country it might be worth a weekend to go to the show.  Good luck in your shopping.

MERY CHRISTMAS

Excel and Hitchhiker are both manugactured in Kansas, I don't believe the plants are that far apart. Hitchhiker has an excellent owners forum, http://nuwaowners.org/forum//index.php. They are just about as friendly as everyone on this forum, close but not quite. I haven't read the Excel owners forum but here is a link http://irv2.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/6281048492.
I have been researching for a year or so and both of these have excellent rating. If you have a deep pocket book, New Horizons, also a Kansas product is a good unit, http://www.horizonsrv.com/.
Good luck.

Mentioning the Tampa Super Show; Lazy Days has finally joined the show on the fair grounds in Tampa, rather than inviting everyone to their dealership. (At least that was true last year)

The Tampa show will have hundreds of rigs of all types available for inspecting. I suspect some western brands will not be there, and some western 5'er manufactures don't have a large dealer network. If you are near it, it is worth your while. The Rally is very large also. Perry, Georgia is about 300 miles from Tampa, straight up I-75.

Loralie,
My wife and I are signed up to attend the rally at Perry.  We are living fulltime in our 35' Excel '05 that we bought used last summer.  We are very happy with our purchase and will be leaving our home state of Alabama May 31 '08 to go on the road.  Our first main destination will be the RV Dreams rally in Branson.
We did a great deal of research before making the decision to buy an Excel.  We have been very comfortable in our fiver this winter even though temperatures have dipped to 15 degrees.  We would be glad to show you our trailer if you decide to attend the rally.  You can contact us at e-mail alpipe1946@yahoo.con if you have any questions or would like to meet us at the rally.  Please list Perry Rally on subject of e-mail as we delete those we do not recognize.
Allan and Jeanne,

Hi Loralie!
By all means, if you can make it to Lazy Days, go and see for yourself what your RV choices are.  There is no place like it!  It is so much fun to just spend time there comparing all the models and deciding what your needs are.  Plan to spend several days...it's a huge place and the have a cafe with free breakfast and lunch so you can take your time and  explore the rigs.  Do your price shopping homework so you'll know what the right price is before you go.

Can't help you much with The Rally...only know it is very big and sponsored by Good Sam so don't give 'em your name and address unless you want volumes of junk mail for the rest of your life! :)

Good luck with your purchase and hope to see you down th road!
