Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Do Fulltimers ever take a "Vacation" from RVing?

Even though Fulltimers are on an extended vaction lifestyle, do any of you leave the rig and go on a cruise, or fly to Europe for a tour,  or take a runaway weekend in Vegas?

Does a break from the day-to-day RV travel ever appeal to you, to help keep the fulltiming living fresh, enjoyable and fun?

Best Regards!

Interesting concept. If I ever get to travel in my RV extensively, that will be all the vacation I need. Of course who knows how I will feel about that after a couple of years?

Yes, we take a "vacation" from our fulltiming "vacation."  We don't do it to escape or necessarily to "keep it fresh."  There are some places you just can't drive and RV...like across water (unless you have one of those really expensive floatable rigs - boy would I be nervous driving that into the water!)               We have good friends who do not own an RV and occasionally are invited to do a cruise with them.  We always enjoy it and are glad to get home as well.  They sometimes come along with us as we travel, too.       Also, we occasionally fly or drive the car someplace to attend a family function, or to visit over the holidays when its too far or the weather is bad for the time we plan to be gone.  (We don't take runaway weekends to LasVegas...we go there for two weeks at a time in the RV! )

Good question, We haven't though much about it.  We aren't full timing yet, but in about a month we will be.  We have sold our stick house and after reading about storing our funiture we decided the expense wasn't practical.  Yes Howard and Linda gave us a lot of direction on this decision.  We have sold almost everything.

We have been on vacation since  Jan 2005,  were in out stick house 3.5 month in 05.  We really believe that what we are doing is a Vacation or as I like to say every day is a Holiday.  We still have a site overlooking the Tennessee River when we are in Tn.  That to is like being on vacation.  GBY...

Like Lindy of Delaine and Lindy we will be fulltiming starting October 1.

We plan to keep the two time shares (2 weeks) per year and will need to find a place to store the 5er and truck, but hey, vacation is vacation. Everyone deserves to get away from the condo even if it does have wheels.

RE: Do Fulltimers ever take a "Vacation" from RVing?

Well, we just went on a 5 day cruise to Mexico this past December to get married. Then this coming November we're going on an 11 day "Geek" cruise with a bunch of Mac Addicts to the Mediterranean (Alexandria, the Pyramids, etc...). Then, just recently, my wife and mother-in-law spring another one on me for this coming June. It's a river cruise somewhere in Switzerland. Now that we have these all booked, and I just quit my job, the market tanks by 10-15%.

First, congrats to JCW.heart.gifheart.gifheart.gif
Back to the thread.Last simmer we workamped in New Hampshire and we would have three days off during the week.  We would load up our Saturn with Tent, cots and air matress and take trips to Maine, Montreal, Boston Cape cod and spend two nights in these areas.  For us it didn't make sense to move the motorhome for a short period.  This would also get us back into camping the way it should be done..  This summer we will be in Montana and hopefully can do the same.

We fulltime in one year and 6 days from today. However, just yesterday we started making plans for a week in Scotland late this summer. What will we do once we fulltime? Who knows!

We have been on the road for just over 3 years now and I still can't imagine taking a vacation from a vacation! We do so many different things and go to so many different places we haven't gotten very bored yet. That day may come but to us, taking a cruise, going on a get away to Vegas, etc. are all part of the life style and I wouldn't ever consider it a "get a way," perhaps a "get to," instead. We get so wrapped up in it all that many times we don't even know what day it is. We now have a "Day of the week" clock so that we don't go to the post office on Sunday! smile.gif

Like ahoweth said, "Can't imagine taking a vacation from a vacation". Our vacations prior to going full-time were traveling to different parts of the country, or going to visit our kids.

That's exactly what we are doing all the time now!biggrin
