Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Another lurker here. We are about 3 years plus out from doing this full time. We talk about it daily :) -- Or at least I find a way to insert some sort of RV comment into conversation on a daily basis . We are going the 5th wheel route and have a truck already. We are ready now!!!- However, the kiddos...
How is everyone else coping while they are waiting for their house to sell? For those of you who have gone through the process of waiting for your house to sell to become fulltimers how did you do it? I ask this because we are just crawling out of our skin. While our house is sitting empty back in Northwe...
After seeing Howard and Linda's "Stable Tablecloth" in use at the rally, I naturally wanted one. :) I soon found that the link provided in the journal is no longer valid, because the man retired. I was directed to order from a site in Canada, only to find out they will not ship to the US. :( I w...
We're finalizing the loan terms tomorrow, but I just wanted to thank everyone for your support and to let you know that I have bought a 5th wheel. As soon as I walked into it, I fell in love with it - and I didn't feel that way about anything else I saw. Here is a link to what I bought, plus the RV park I'm moving...
August seems to be fast approaching. With its imminent arrival, it is time to consider what one does for vacation. Over the years we have gone from vacationing in June or July to the last of August. That is so we can also take advantage of the extra day brought on by Labor Day. However, this year there w...
Hope this is a fair question.... If you have about $90,000 to $100,000 to spend, and your intended use is to live in it where it's warm for a few months each winter, and occasional weeks and/or week ends during the summer, what motorhome would you buy???? Apart from the price range and usage and current...
My salesperson has tried everything....I'm amazed, because I've never had a problem buying anything before and I have an excellent credit rating. Two things that are hampering me: 1) I'm unemployed, and although I'm getting $1800/month on unemployment, I'm still unemployed therefore I have...
I've just gone thru literally days of working thru figures and reading a LOT of the posts on this forum, including Howard's very useful posts about finances and budgeting - and I'm still not sure if I have enough money to workamp. Is it possible to get your opinions? I followed Howard's suggestions abo...
Is it ok to post a sign on your rig? I figure that would get the most attention. I'm thinking maybe put up an index card at the RV park's bulletin board or something... I am really good at anything with images; taking pictures, turning them into online albums, image restoration, or making hard-copy b...
This is not a new item, just a reminder. Had my radiator give out this past weekend. (there is a recall #0B006 or 0B007 I think) I am still trying to find a replacement and have lost 2 days reservation on a park so far. The Ford dealers told me that anyone who does not get the recall attended to ASAP can l...
Hey Dreamers...Sherri and I are on the road after 37 years of dreaming about it. Sherri is still working 3 days a week off 4 until she gets ready to retire. I have been kicking around the idea of working the same schedule until then too. Hey I figure it would be better than Workamping...in one place for mon...
Seen in the news today. GM Stops Trying To Sell Medium Duty Truck Line For the past four years, General Motors has been trying to sell its medium duty truck business, which produces the giant Chevy Kodiak and GMC Topkick. Navistar, Isuzu and other unnamed suitors were all at one point in discussions wi...
I have an '85 Class C "Lindy" by Skyline with a 3500 Onan generator. I'm a little confused about what charges what. Does the generator charge the house battery? Does the generator start from the house battery or the motor battery? I recently had the motor battery lose power. We turned...
Hello everyone, I was laid off two months ago from a job that I loved and find myself trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. Just in the past few years, I've realized how much I love to travel and feel I've become totally hooked on loading up my car (VW New Beetle) and zooming away for a few day...
Okay, I'm a just what you call a lurker coming out of the closet. I so look forward to reading you and you’re sweetie’s journal entries daily. I have learned so much from the site. My sweetie and I (he is already retired) bought a M/H and are now making plans, buying things only for the m/h instead of for o...
I'm Colleen (46), hubby is Tim (43). We have our youngest son Steven still at home (going into 11th grade), Dixie our golden retriever and Sonic a 60lb mutt. We recently purchased a new TT, a 2008 Wildwood T28DDSS-LE. Followed very quickly with a TV upgrade to a F250 Diesel. We also have a F150 (the fo...
A local dealer has a "new" 2008 Fleetwood Terra 36T for which they are asking $77,000. I know it's a "low end" Class A motorhome; but, it seems like an awful lot of motorhome for the money. When we do buy our intent is use it seasonally; i.e. two or three months at a time in the winter,...
Not on the road yet....but we are ever so close!! Yippee. We will begin with shorter trips in Washington and Oregon to begin. How short the trip and far we drive depends on $$$. We have no control over fuel prices...so we will "go with the flow". This (April-June) is one of the most beautifu...
Lurker finally came in from the cold. Enjoy reading about the exploits of all the RV-Dreams family. My wife and I are a little ways away from retirement but we are already planning the post-work time together. We have two daughters who will, someday, leave the nest and allow us to travel more and enjoy...
We have two budgies and was hoping somehow we could take them with us when we travel. All suggestions, comments welcome. I read that some birds get motion sickness....and that they should be covered during the riding. Their cage would be anchored in the 5ver....there is no room for them in the backse...
We are full-timers who spend 2-3 months at a time parked in different places and on different terrain. Gravel, dirt, asphalt. Is it necessary to put something under the tires? Even for short periods should there be something under the tires? I do see other people doing it for just a few days. We have a...
Does anyone from Canada use Magic Jack? We recently bought one from the Magic Jack website, but we had to take a U.S. phone number. It's a low one time charge (I believe less the $100 for 5 years) You can call anyone in North America. It connects to your computer and is wonderful if you are away and wan...
Got an email from a couple we met when buying our Cambridge. There are going off the road and have a 2006 Keystone Cambridge fifth wheel (same model as ours) for sale. Here is the link on RV Clearing House: 2006 Keystone Cambridge It can be a package deal with their Checy 3500 as well. I can provide an emai...
I will be camphosting this summer at Lassen Volcanic National Park in N. California. I will have water & sewer hookups, but no electric, so I will be reliant on my generator. Every morning I grind the coffee beans in an electric grinder, and brew 8 cups of coffee in my Mr. Coffee (that only amounts...
At the beginning of May we bought an older bus conversion to live in. This Friday (May 29th) we will be moving back to Iowa from Oregon with it and it will be a big test for our 1964 MCI Challenger bus conversion. We've driven it about 80 miles so far (on the interstate, up some inclines) and haven't had...
Good day, All. In an effort to help Dan (NorCalDan) get information as to how big of a truck he needs to pull a camper (and to help others as well), I am asking the following question: For those of you with Ford F350's and F450's, could you give us an idea of what your particular truck weighs when fully load...
Cookie Queen and Fox are sitting at home waiting for our Realtor to show up with a contract on our home. It will be 19 days since we hit the MLS. FWIW we sold for 10% less than the asking price. Sometimes you have to take less in order to go forward with plans. Can't wait to become a full-time RVer.
