Slide Maintenance
(Preview)
Okay now that Howard and I are stationary for awhile, should we be opening and closing our slides from time to time? I have heard that you should do this to keep them in good working order. I am curious to see how many people bring their slides in from time to time?
Is there anything e...

Dump Valve Tip to make using them easier!
(Preview)
I carry a can of silicone spray in my wet bay. Every once in a while, after I've openned the valve, a spray a little silicone on the metal shaft, then open and close the valve a couple of times. You'll be amazed at how easy the valve will open after that.
Best Regards!

Tie Downs for wind
(Preview)
After reading Howard's journal today, I wondered if they make tie-downs for RVs that you can use in areas that are prone to high winds...like out West. I don't know how hard they would be to apply and use??
How many of you guys use the tri-pod stablizer thing that you put under the hitch on fifth wheels?...

Weighing a trailer?
(Preview)
Where does one go about getting a trailer weighed? I have weighed my trailer while it was attached to my truck, but I did not unhitch since it didn't seem appropriate to tie up the weighing platform at the truck stop while I made a fool of myself taking forever to hitch up again. But I don't ha...

Truck modifications
(Preview)
Hi,
We're towing 15,550# with a 2006 Ford F350 diesel dually, and although we don't have any complaints with towing performance, we only average between 9.5 and 10 MPG.
I keep reading about modifications for the truck, like air filters and performance chips, and am wondering if any of them work,...

It would be helpful to hear from fifth wheel owners on what maintenance issues need to be addressed on an annual basis. For example, what's involved in wheel bearing and brake inspections, cleaning, lubing? What needs to be done to rubber roofs to keep them clean and leak free?&n...

Using the propane while traveling

I saw a RV Today show last week. A viewer sent in a tip about using those frozen cold packs in your refrig/freezer to keep the food cold while traveling.
We have always made sure that once we unplug, that the propane turns on, and the refrig. is running off the propane while we are traveling down the road...

Battery Maintenance
(Preview)
Hi, We've only been out for about 7 months now and I have checked the batteries twice, and have been surprised at the amount of water they've taken. Both times it's been over a half gallon combined, in 4 6 volt batteries. This seems like a lot to me, as we really don't seem to use them much as we are in full hoo...

I had two day/night shades that the strings broke on. Priced new shades, $150 a piece. That wasn't going to happen. Bought 100 feet of cord, downloaded a diagram from the Irv2.com forum and got to it. It was not hard at all, just a little time consuming.
The cause of the stri...

In the path of a storm
(Preview)
Well, I've been doing a bunch of research on protecting your RV from storms. I've read several forums on this subject and looked back over RVing magazines.
I did find out that if you fill up your fresh water tanks and your holding tanks with water, It adds a lot of weight that helps hold your RV "down".
