Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are leaving Dolores, Colorado and heading to Orderville/Zion National Park area. Is scenic route 12 doable for a 40' fifth wheel. Otherwise we will have to drop down into Arizona for much of the trip.
We were looking at taking 160 out of Cortex, taking 41 to 162, to 163, ging north on 261 to 95 to Hanksville. Then taking 24 to 12 down to 89 south.
Assuming you are planning on staying at the Watchman CG in Zion you will need to enter the park from the west side on Rt. 9. Due to the tunnels one can't get a 40' rig to the west side going into the park on Rt 9 from the east off US 89. So if staying at Watchman you will have to come to the west side and that means Arizona for some of the trip unless one goes way north and down I-15 which is much longer. If my premise is correct you might want to rethink your route.
As to scenic route 12 - take into consideration for any route cell coverage and a possible mechanical issue. That's a personal decision even if the route is doable with the rig.
We are staying at the Bauer's Canyon RV Park in nearby Glendale UT and enjoying our stay here with a rally group, We have pretty much filled the park but most of us will be leaving tomorrow. Nice park, reasonable rates, full hookup and good Internet. All the apples, pears and plums you want in their orchard.
We towed a 37ft 5th wheel and really enjoyed the trip- depends on the driver's comfort level though,
for sure.
Here's my blog post about the road, it has some pictures of the roadway.
