Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Folks Knowledgeable About Oregon Highways

Since Jo and I will be moving to Oregon in a matter of weeks, I was wondering about highways 20, 97, 230 and 62 from around Ontario, OR to Grants Pass via Bend.

See Map

Or, is one of those alternate routes better for towing a 38.5 foot fifth wheel?  Also, depending on the routes shown at that map, are there any RV sites to recommend that would be about halfway between the cities mentioned?  We figure on taking two days to get from Mountain Home, Idaho to Grants Pass, OR.

Terry, you might want to PM DaveandDiane, they are from Grants Pass OR before they went FT, I would think they might have some insight. PNW has had more snow than usual this winter, you might also want to check the state DOT site, I know WA and CA have mandatory chain carrying requirements, regardless of current road conditions from Nov-Mar, not sure about OR when crossing the Cascades or Sierras.

The last time we left Bend and went to Ontario we took highway 26 because we heard some of 20 was twisty but I know a bunch of trucks do drive it so it shouldn't be that bad.
97 from Bend top Chemult is a piece of cake. The rest of the way into Grants Pass should be fine as well but we have not driven it with the motorhome, just on motorcycles.
And the last time we drove from Grants Pass to Bend we went to Eugene to visit friends and then over.

If you do go that way I might not take highway 234 at the end of that route to Gold Hill. Most of it is just fine but it thins down some as you get to Gold Hill. I would go the few extra miles into White City and cross over to I-5.

Thanks, Ruth.  I was kind of counting on you posting here.  However, I'm unable to find the username "DaveandDiane" in the list of forum members.  Do they go by something other than that?

Good tip on checking on the Oregon DOT site.  I really don't want to buy chains if I don't have to.

Thanks also to the rest of you answering as well.

Terry

Terry - Sorry, the Dave & Diane I was thinking about their names, not their forum name, Hdrider (aka Dave & Diane) answered your question.

Thanks, Ruth.  I just found them this evening by accident.  I'll ask them to look at this thread and see what they say.

 Duuuhhh!!!

Chalk that one up to a 69-year-old not keeping an eye on who posted what.  Sorry.

You'd think that I would be better at that since I was a forum moderator for so long.
