Alternative route around Albuquerque NM

Albuquerque wasn't hard to travel through on I-40. Really pretty easy.

You have to go way out of the way for alternates, probably working your way to US60. We also have not found Albuquerque that bad, it is easier than many other cities and way easier than Chicago, Houston or Miami.

Since you are heading to Utah (at least presumedly so), you might consider Highway 160 through southern Colorado. North on I-25 to Walsenberg and then west from there. You will have Wolf Creek Pass to cross, but I think that's the only pass. While I haven't pulled that with our RV yet, we have driven Hwy 160 from Durango back east a couple of times in the last year in regular vehicles. The highway is good and the area goes through or near some really nice places to see.

The biggest drawback to Hwy 160 is that a lot of it is 2-lane highway.

Just hope they know how to usie gearing and breaking if going across Wolf Creek. I hear that truckers try to avoid it! Hopefully it has been improved since the 1980's.

Out of all the ways to get across the rockies, ABQ is probably the easiest. Is it the traffic you dont like? You might find some in town routes that can cut out on the traffic. Lots of great taco places and chile verdes to be had!

Was over wolfcreek pass last month and its in good shape, just need to pay attention to the 25 mph curve closer to the bottom. Albuquerque is very easy to get through especially if your just going straight through, just get in the middle lane and stay with the traffic. If you need to stop there is some places on the west side of town on top of the hill.
