What do you mean by 'early' fall? If October, then temperatures will be on the decline and places like Big Bend would be a must stop. September, I'm not so sure. Go across on 1-10, unless you really want to see Dallas-Ft. Worth. If you haven't been before, make sure you stop in San Antonio, see the Alamo, do the River Walk & boat ride, stop for a few days in Kerrville, take a day to go up to Fredericksburg and stop in at Rustlin' Robs and eat your way through, go over to Luckenbach, TX and see if "Willie and the Boys" are playing, and head west on US Highway 90 out of San Antonio - lots of interesting things to see.

I will chime in on Barb's comment about Dallas/Ft. Worth. Avoid if at all possible. When we lived in Oklahoma City, I hated the few times we drove down in our regular vehicle. I'd NEVER go through there with an RV. Traffic is HORRENDOUS!!!!!

DFW is not a pleasant city to tow through, but compared to LA or the Bay Area it's much easier especially if you are going through on I 20. On the west side of Dallas there's at least one COE park and a state park near Cedar Hill that have some reasonable big rig sites. However, if you haven't been to San Antonio, I would definitely choose that as a stopping point vs DFW. Just my opinion, lived in Dallas for 12 years. There are some areas around Austin with beautiful fall color.

We'll be leaving FL around Sept 1. Don't have to be in AZ until Oct 10. We are going to spend 3-4 days in Jackson, MS (seeing family). So that means that we'll probably go west on I-20 and come back on I-10. We like baseball, zoo's, parks, museums, craft beer.

September means baseball games in Arlington, and depending upon how the Rangers are doing, might be interesting. If so, stay at TreeTops in Arlington. September is hot in Tx and there will be a lot of storms rumbling throughout the month. Late September/early October, head straight west from Ft. Worth towards Lubbock then angle up to Albuquerque to pick up I-40 until you get to Winslow. Head towards Phoenix from there (after looking to see if the girl with the flatbed Ford is around) because the southern route through El Paso and Tucson will be hot.

New Orleans and Albuquerque are two of our favorite cities and they should both be on your trip. Lots of interesting sites and foods to try in both. Just the drive through New Mexico is really an enjoyable adventure.

Ok ...I'll be the sarcastic one.....there is absolutely nothing to see along the way...may as well save the money on fuel and stay in Florida

You are obviously NOT a photographer. A photographer can find beauty in just about everything and every place. Desolate country in southern Utah and I found this:

I really can't help with suggestions of what to see or how to go, but I can suggest just being observant to see what there is. I hate flying because I can't see the country from 30,000 feet.

Thanks ya'll. I'm making a list for our first "big trip". I keep telling hubby that we don't have to see it all in one trip. We're going to be doing this for several years so we have plenty of time.

That is one reason there is a video button on most cameras these days.

I say this with humor, since the only time I took photos and video of cheerleaders was when my niece was one in high school and wanted the video.

Spring training in the Phoenix area. The Cactus league has 12 games a day going on during the month. Really a lot of fun.

We go to Phoenix in the fall. Arizona Fall League.

Arizona Fall League is a lot of fun. But Spring Training is really neat if one of the teams is one you follow - chance to see the 'new' kids and gage what they might be capable of in the 'bigs'.
