Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Fifth wheel back up camera?

I'll be looking to add a back up camera to my 2007 Bighorn. What do the experts out there recommend ? Experiences?

I'll be picking the rig up May 13th. In Fulton, NY and will start the bonding process, etc.

I had one on my Montana that I purchased new off ebay but don't remember the dealer or brand name. I ordered mine with an additional, long, cable to make the run from the back of the 5er to the front of the pin box and then ran the cable that came with the unit from the back of my truck into the cab to the monitor. Worked really well and was a nice gadget to have.

I'm not sure of the brand name on ours, but it worked for the first couple of times that we towed the fifth wheel.  The last time we went out, the display kept "flickering in and out" and was useless.  Sadly, I don't know whether it is related to the wireless transmitter or to the monitor.

FWIW I strongly recommend wired systems - which are naturally much harder to install - and much more reliable than the wireless systems.  Wireless use "RF" which is, by FCC requirement, very low power and are very prone to not providing enough signal to be stable. They are also very prone to interference.  I am not saying no one has a wireless system that hasn't worked perfectly for them.  I'm saying wired works better almost all the time for most uses because - it wired.

I second using a wired system.....wireless will get interference from others close by....baby monitors....and most wireless video equipment.

2. the wireless transmitter and antenna only last so long and are very prone to failure.

 that's the one I had on my Montana from the same seller on ebay, good system but you will need to order an additional cable, I think I got a 50' one.

Roy,

most I have seen use a 4 wire system with a round plug, if it was me I would see if I could just provide it to the factory myself, might be possible.
