Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are listed with a realtor - have had 3 showings and one broker open house. All good feedback - the right people just haven't walked through the door yet! One of the realtors that came to the broker open house is bringing someone this evening - trying real hard not to get my hopes up, but VERY HARD not to.
Took our truck and 5er out this past weekend, to a Heartland Owners Rally. It was close by (about an hour away) and everyone was very nice, welcoming and even helped Bill figure out a few rig things.
Can't wait to leave for the RV-Dreams rally this weekend! That's b/c we will get to meet a lot of you in person - FINALLY!
Safe travels to everyone!
Kelly and Bill
p.s. Thanks Tracey for doing the map! Will be printing a copy to bring along - will make it MUCH easier to find everyone!
My house listed on March 27th, had open house March 30th. Got 4 offers that week and signed a contract that week. We're out of attorney review and waiting for the results of the home inspection, in case there's anything else we need to fix, but so far it's looking pretty good.
We can't buy the rig until we have the proceeds from the house in the bank. Closing date so far scheduled for June 5th. We have a rig/truck combo in mind by a private seller in FL and hope the inspection on those works out well. Plans are immediately after closing, heading to FL to buy it, visit a bunch of relatives down there, do all the paperwork to domicile there, then head north with a trip to visit daughter in NC.
Trying to decide if time will allow us to attend the Fall rally in Goshen. We don't want to travel more than 200 miles in a day and we'd be leaving Long Island NY the last week of August and need to be back in Raleigh, NC by Sept. 23 so we'll have to play around with the numbers to see if it's doable (both trips are between 700-800 miles).

"in case there's anything else we need to fix" - The buyer for our last house tried to play hardball here and we told him "we will give you a $1500 credit on closing, instead of fixing these items". He took the deal, since he knew we had other buyers interested.

That's pretty much the deal here, too. We do have another buyer waiting in the wings. Fortunately, we have a great lawyer who wrote into the contract that the ONLY things the buyers can ask for (to fix or credit) is anything major that is structural or environmental, including no replacing old but working appliances. Hopefully they will not have found anything major that is structural or environmental. Thankfully the neighbors removed the drainpipe that was discharging into our yard before the inspection.
Hopefully more news by tomorrow.

Been a little bit of a whirlwind on this end. We casually flipped the switch on our house to For Sale by Owner on Zillow. Our timing to do that was originally when we returned from the rally, but think we got caught up with all the "quick sale mojo" that was floating around. We had a few calls the first day, scheduled the first showing for Wednesday and by some miracle, the first people who looked at it, put an offer in on Friday. We countered, they accepted and we have a contract. Oops! Inspection and appraisal are tomorrow, so trying to keep emotions in check until that gets finished. If all goes well, I think we'll be houseless the same day as Cheryl!
We fly to Dallas on Saturday--where our coach has been in storage (with our broker/dealer) since December when we bought it--then drive it to the rally. Will be a hike and will need one really good solid day of driving to make our schedule, but seems doable. When we return from the rally, we'll be moving everything we can into our new home, purging tons of stuff, and hanging out at the local campground until we figure things out--both with the coach, and life!!
So, a range of emotions, but probably good that things moved so quick as I haven't had a whole lot of time to digest. We are looking forward to the rally as we need a vacation just knowing what's ahead of us the next several weeks!!
Thanks to all on here for support and sharing. It's helped getting us to this point. And look forward to meeting everyone--if not at the rally, on the road!!
Good idea, Cheryl. I can't keep up with everyone, either. I can feel the excitement all the way around and it seems over the top!
We are still in the process of trying to find someone to renovate the townhouse. We have put my (other) aunt (who is our realtor) in charge of finding a contractor and overseeing the actual job. We are still way too pooped from the past 2.5 years to make any decisions, although we are getting better. As soon as that is done, we will list the townhouse and it should sell quickly. In the meantime, we are weeding through our house. I have pretty much gone through everything and boxed it up accordingly... for sale, RV, etc. Dear husband has already begun weeding through his stuff... and doing a great job, I might add! We are leaving early tomorrow morning for the rally and I have NO DOUBT the excitement will really get us moving. We are hoping to put our house on the market around the first part of June. It, too, should sell VERY quickly! (I am thinking 3 days or less. We'll see!) It is very possible we will need to move into temporary living quarters, however, until we can get our truck and 5er and we can't even place our order for a 2015 truck until August/September. We will order our 5er according to the truck delivery schedule.
As I was packing for our trip today, I became little misty thinking that I have NEVER actually dreamed this big. And to top it off, our dream is actually coming true. May I just add, we are thanking God for His faithfulness. We are so very blessed!
I want to thank the dreamers on this forum who have reached out and encouraged me/us over the past few years. Thank you, too, for sharing your knowledge/experience/expertise with all of us newbies. It is much appreciated!
Our closing is scheduled for Monday, April 28th. We packed and moved the last load to NC this past weekend (bedroom sets going to niece and nephew and lots of furniture divided to other family). Purple Heart is picking up tomorrow - need to have everything to the curb by 7am and already told them it will be an "extra large" load.
Our realtor called today to ask if we would agree to close Friday morning. After a little panic attack as I looked around at everything still left in the house I told him that Monday will be better for us so we have the weekend to finish up. We are sleeping in the RV in the driveway since we already gave away our bed.
I expect a couple of more trash runs and probably one more load to drop off for donations as we finish loading the RV with clothes and kitchen items. We plan to move the RV down to VA this weekend and then drive up for the closing on Monday.
We're with ya! Last of our inspections will be done tomorrow then the house/ranch will go on the market in mid-May. Looking forward to seeing you all at the rally!! We fly in on Monday and will be there for the mini 2014 Grad get-together that evening!!
Our house has been listed for 2 weeks now. One couple has looked at it so far. We are having a open house on the 27 of this month. Just a waiting game. Kenny & frances

We started Jan. 14 and so far it has been great. We are on our way back to Canada for the summer months and family time. We will sit in our home park until Oct., with a few small trips to keep it interesting. There is nothing like the freedom of this lifestyle!
If you use the "More" button in the upper right corner of your comment block, you will find an "Edit" option. Using that "Edit" option will allow you to go back and correct spelling and grammar. I've done that a HUGE number of times.

Most of you know, we put the house on the market and it sold in 3 days. Closing was March 20th. We spent that night in the 5'er for the first time--in a parking lot at the bottom of our hill since it was too late to go anywhere. Since then we stayed the max 14 days at a couple of local parks and then the past few days at Chatfield State Park. Today was the last day of work for my DH and I both. It has been exhausting and overwhelming at times, but tomorrow morning we hit the road to start driving to TN for the rally--and a visit with my grand babies who just happen to live in TN :)
We are really looking forward to meeting many of you at the rally, and hopefully others of you down the road!!

My hubby and a contractor are actually putting a new floor in our front bedroom as I type. The appraiser comes tomorrow (Monday 4/28/14) and our realtor comes on May 1. It goes on the MLS on May 5th. I am doing a karma dance that it sell at the end of June. My weddings will be done and we can hit the road. That's the plan, but as they say what befalls the best laid plans.
We did all the preliminary work last year 2013. Sold house, downsized, astounded everyone with the news we were taking off. This year purchased our truck 2007 Silverado 2500HD and our travel trailer 2001 31' Dutchman Classic. We have it on it's summer home and are transitioning from apt to the trailer. True panic sets in now! House was 1800 sq ft, apt was 1100, trailer is 280. Oh boy, more downsizing! We will spend the summer in MI getting used to our new digs and taking care of any issues that may pop up. New or used there tends to be issues :) Then Oct 1 we hit the road. Good luck all with your preparations!
Good news - Signed the papers to sell the house today!! Bad news - WAY underestimated the amounts of stuff we had and were up till 230 am packing, sorting and cleaning and then up at 6 am to finish up. We moved the last box out after the new owners showed up for the walk through. Now to keep purging because we still have boxes in the hallway, on the couch, and in the truck!!
This is my first post in the RV-Dreams forum. I have been reading Howard's blog since it started. I have learned a great deal from he and Linda. I would like to join the class of 2014. We have been working to this goal for a long time. We actually sold our house in 2012 and moved into the trailer in early 2013, but I was still working, so I did not feel free. My last day working for my company was January 17. I have been free since and we love it. We traveled for a couple of months and are now parked at a ranch in Missouri that we own with a number of others. It is beautiful here this time of year. The dogwoods are beautiful right now. We will be here until the end of May. We will then get back on the road for a while.
Welcome I have read all of Howard as well and it's been incredibly helpful but I have to say this group is amazing because everyone's going through it right now!!!! So glad you stepped out and updated us
We'll be joining soon. We listed the house 2 weeks ago and had two offers in eleven days. One we accepted and the other is a full price back-up for cash if the first falls through. Meg suddenly realized that on June 13 I'll become a disabled homeless Vietnam Vet. I told her that if we can't find the "right" motorhome that she likes, I'll get a hand written sign and stand on a busy street corner in Spokane and panhandle. Homeless Vet. Needs help finding Monaco 43 footer. I wonder if anyone would toss a quarter into my cup.
On a more serious note...what is the best way to make a long distance deal on a coach? There are no late model rigs that we are interested in within 500 miles of Moscow. We've been internet shopping for 8 months and see lots great rigs but I hate to buy sight-unseen. What has been anyone's expirence?

Since this thread is a Class of 2014 update for going full time I would like to let you all know that we listed the house last night and the sign is in the yard. Hoping for a quick sale like the others on this thread. It has been fun reading about everyones excitement. I would apprecate another Mojo Karma Dance from Lucky Mike....Mike you really seem to have the touch. I know it would help us alot. Thank you all for your words of wisdom and enthusiasm. Hope to meet some of you at the fall rally in Goshen in Sept. Curt
I'm not a "class of 2014" member as we won't be fulltiming until early 2015 when we plan to sell our home and move into our 5th wheel for 6 months and then start traveling.
I can't help but notice, and I think it's amazing, that RV living is the great social equalizer. You have people in new and very expensive RVs and others in older, smaller and maybe used RVs but there is no class system in the RV world...we are all RVers and love to share our excitement about the lifestyle. No matter what kind of rig you have, or how much money you have to spend, we all can see pretty much the same sights and enjoy the same experiences.
Congratulations to everyone who is making the leap this year, and I look forward to joining you (again) next year.

Finally signing the contract with real estate agent today...getting it listed before Memorial Day weekend. The few last minute things turned into a weeks worth of work. Oh and we found a nice couch to replace the one I the fiver. Breathed a huge sigh of relief when it fit through the RV door easily . Will post pics when lee finishes installing it :).
I keep telling myself slow but steady wins the race ... One tough thing is when I got back for. The rally 5 out of 15 people in my group at work were downsized. It was very very hard not to just say take me..I want to go, but the house isn't sold Nd the timing is just not right. Thanks to my rally friends Cory Nd Pam for talking me down from doing something incredibly stupid. If I haven't mentioned it lately I am incredibly glad for this group of people.
Trace & Lee
All our prayers and positive vibes are to you guys for a quick sale on the house :)
I do believe that good things happen to good people and are meant to be, in the time they happen.
We miss everyone - happy RV-Dreams.

Just adding to my update post from May 9th. We just got an offer and signed the contract this evening. It was back and forth a few times but we stuck to our guns and what we knew the house was worth and finally got the price we could live with. Now we have to pass the inspection and appraisal. Tentative closing is in July. Works perfectly since I will be retiring on Sept 1. So far the mojo is still working. I could still use a Mojo Dance from Lucky Mike that all goes well through the closing. Thanks for the support this community gives to the followers. Curt
Congrats!! Happy for you! Keep a little bit of that mojo for us here in CA! Going on the market in a week or two. It was great meeting you both and look forward to seeing you again at the Fall Rally!

Thank you Debbie, So far the Mojo is still getting passed around. I know there is enough for you and Steve too. We are so thankful that the offer was a good one and we were able to sell as quickly as we did. A huge weight has been lifted. Glad you made it home safely and happy we were able to meet when you picked up your new truck. It will be great getting together again at the fall rally.
May have a change of plans regarding the Fall rally.... I'm trying to rearrange things so I don't need to be in Raleigh, NC until a week later, which means we CAN come to the rally!
Still not doing anything until I have what I consider my true green light to move forward - which is official notification that our buyers have their mortgage commitment. Any day now....
