Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Eric is pretty cool....he has gone thru a few nightmares over the last couple years.....his videos are great to watch...or if your out there ,Great guy to have coffee & swap stories with!!

Wow! So he seems to be permanently boondocking within the city of Olympia. If I get up there, yes, he'd be interesting to have a cup of coffee with. I would be interesting where is permanently boondocks, i.e., Walmart or some other location?
Mike,
Is this what you mean by "Just Extreme boondocking!!!!!!"
Eric is an urban Boondocker......he started his journey so he could go back to school and lower his expenses and kinda fell in love with the lifestyle.....have to give him credit , he had a pretty tough time of it in the beginning and worked his way up while staying in school.

I can now understand why some people leave this forum.....First I find it amazing you even watched the video....second you passed judgement on someone and placed them beneath you without all the information.
not everyone has a large budget.........not everyone can afford 25 -50 or 100k rigs......some have to live out here on nothing.....others on stipends of less than 1200 a month you do what you have to.....
in the last year or so this forum has out grown itself..... some members feel its time to set boundries for the lesser few , its to bad..........speaking from experiences...it all can be taken from you in a blink of an eye and the road to comeback is sometimes impassible ......
I'll go find Snow Gypsy......she understands and got fed up........Well me too!!!
Enjoy your journey my friends , just like sometimes on the road we only will pass once and then become a memory
Lucky Mike has left the house
to those I ' ve met......thanks for being there.......but Im done with the forum....will delete the posts later!!!

Mike, come back!!! You are admired and respected by many on here. Your positive attitude with regard to motivational ideas and "can do" spirit is a major reason we joined this forum. Please reconsider.

Please, we need you more than ever whenever a "rotten apple" comment gets in. I never saw the comment but I'm guessing it was pretty offensive. There are so many of us here who need your positive attitude and humor to face our own troubles and disappointments. Please don't punish all of us for the faults of a few. We love you.
I posted the video because it showed someone was getting by for less than $1000 a month as an RVer. He had to be persistent, scrappy and creative to make it, but was succeeding. Some people might find something to criticize in how he keeps things so cheap, but all you have to do is add $100 or $200 to his monthly expenses and most of those criticisms go away. A couple or a family would need to do some things differently, but there are lessons here for all.

Just for clarification. There was a post criticizing the fellow in the video Bjoyce posted. It was a rather harsh post that could have been offensive to certain people in the Forum. That post has since disappeared, making the thread and Mike's departure disconnected. I did not remove the post and neither did our moderators as far as I know.
I have sent an email to Mike. He may or may not respond.
Now, with that out of the way, I want to reiterate that we here at RV-Dreams consistently say that there is no right way to full-time and it can be done in any number of styles with any number of budgets. We don't make judgments about people's choices and do our best to try to avoid labels. This community is diverse and is made up of quite a huge range of asset and income levels. Believe me, we are taken to task by everyone in all those ranges for one reason or another. With that said, it's hard to moderate every comment and it's hard to keep from offending everyone in the group. However, if we try to be diplomatic in expressing our diverse opinions (something we do not want to discourage), we can continue to claim that this Forum is and will be the friendliest RV forum on the web.

Just so don't have to walk on egg shells here............There was no "Snarky" remark.
I commented to this post that Walmart is not boondocking. It does ruin it for the people that want to stay overnight for a rest when others figure they can camp out and stay for days. I've seen it happen here in our own home town repeatedly 'till they get thrown out.
Then in one of the other Youtube videos the guy has posted how he just plugs into a picnic area and gets free power to power his fridge and charge his batteries. So the way I see it some guy posts up a bunch of stuff on Youtube for everyone to see. Some good some not so good. When a legitimate comment is thrown out there it shouldn't raise that big of a problem.
Sorry if this offended anyone especially Mike but it's not secret.......................It's posted all over Youtube for anyone to see.
This is always a problem when posts get removed. People come late to the dance, having no idea about what has already transpired, and are therefore left to speculate.
I didn't really think that anyone here had posted anything that was obscenely offensive. Looks to be nothing more than a difference of opinion based on different perspectives.
Hopefully Lucky Mike decides to come back when he sees how many people here care about him and seek his wisdom. If not, we all need to understand that it appears that this is the result of several instances where someone got judgmental about how someone else decides to RV full time. We all need to be careful how we say things in forums and chat rooms as our words do not always convey our attitudes correctly and we also cannot anticipate the mood of those reading our posts. As Howard consistently points out, "there is not a right or wrong way to RV". We all need to take the advice of others as just that (advice) and not judge or chastise them if we do not agree. I for one gain more wisdom from those who live life differently from me than those who live life the same way.
I also found Eric's video informative and thank Bill for posting the link to it.

So true! When you are sitting across from one another it's easier to get your point across without it sounding condescending or just rude. Sometimes our post comes across with an attitude (mine included) and that's not our/my intention. We are just trying to express ourselves and in doing so we seem to be judgmental or uncaring and that's not the case most of the time. I learn from everyone, even those I totally disagree with.
My previous boss always said "pick up the phone and call me if you have a problem...don't email me." Several people were fired for simply sending the boss an email; it seems something written can take on a negative tone without its author even realizing it. Yep, she fired them because and I quote "I didn't like the tone of your email so gather your belongings and get on down the road."
If nothing else good comes from this maybe we will (including myself) all pause, re-read our comment and maybe edit our post before we hit the submit button.
Not trying to hijack the thread and I do want to stay on topic so again, Bjoyce I do appreciate you taking the time to post the video, it sheds a positive light on making a go of the full-time RV lifestyle without spending a ton of money.

Wow, this clarifies somewhat my post on the "Lucky Mike leaving the forum" thread. Thanks Howard for your post on this thread and for sending Mike an email.
Rick & Janice, you said it so well as did Mark and Nancy. I wonder if some of my posts may have come across as judge mental but I truly hope not.
There is NO right way to do this lifestyle. If some newer members tend to take a attacking tact that is tolerated on other forums please know that IS NOT THE SPIRIT OF THIS FORUM.
Mike has been incredibly helpful to us all both on the forum and in PM's. His spirit personified the value that we saw here.

I followed this thread from the beginning and read all of the posts before they were deleted. Unless I missed something I think this is out of character for Lucky Mike. He just too upbeat to let the comments that I saw bother him. I wonder if something else is going on. I'm relatively new to this forum, but try to check in every day. So I've been reading and looking forward to Mike's post for a few months. My sense is Lucky Mike is a happy guy, not one to let things get him down. Very puzzling. His wisdom will be missed.
Different strokes for different folks will always be the way of the world. The young man in the video is learning how to adapt to the lifestyle of his choice. That he chooses not to conform to what others may think of as, "The Rules of the Road" is his prerogative, and in some cases he may be doing so at his own risk, but that is not for me to judge. Rich or poor, we all fill up at the same pump, and when the game is over and the tank is empty, the King and the Pawn get put back in the same box.

Thanks bjoyce for listing this video. It has useful information and led me to links of other interesting viewpoints.
I am a low budget person currently trying to save up for the RV lifestyle. Sometimes I feel like just going very cheap and just doing it now, hence this type of info helps me think through what that would mean in a very clear way.
This lifestyle can be lived for under 1000 a month total...which is a barebones approach but in its own very comfortable if you are solo! I Did it for 3 years on under 800. 00 per month recently and managed to move about very well and even put money into savings from that........make a budget and stick to it!!!.....not a wishlist! and most of all dont speculate your income because bad days will come and you need to plan for them!
it takes a little tweaking and learning curves to adopt to it..
fuels are your biggest variable...if you drive around aimlessly it will get costly quick....as far as parking there is BLM...NF...COE.....most timberlands and so many others....there is Pavement parking and walmarts for overnites.
small incomes help alot...
fleamarkets & fairs
handyman & repairs
Craigslist Resales & E-Bay
I could go on and on.....If I could help out let me know , I kinda like to help out those who are low budget and need Idea's on how to keep it going or are just at the last dollar point and need to put something together....bottom line is that for 5K and under you can put a moving ,self contained roof over your head and make it work to your benefit out here and more than just survive!!!
PM me for more info.....
