Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My wife and I are still about a year away from getting that DREAM RV, and another year before going FT (or close to it). There are only a couple of websites that we have found really useful, and this website and community is the best. I just finished reading the pro-blog (events leading to your actual "retirement") and have started reading your 'regular' journal. I want to say a big 'Thank You' for hosting this site and all the members of the RV-Dreams community.
As we wander through all the decisions that have to be made I'll keep referring back here to the experiences you shared. As we have questions this will be one of the first forums to ask for advice.
We really do appreciate all of the work (I feel that labor of love) that you put into this.
I am Jeff and am currently employed by a state agency, and my wife Christine is a project manager for a major electronics manufacturer. We live in sunny Northern California. I am planning to retire at 63 - just over 2 years away for me.
One of the things we have talked about is to share our experiences of actually going through this process - going from tons of personal possessions to become 'gypsies'.
We have attended 3 RV shows so far and are looking forward to going to Pleasanton California to see the biggest RV show so far (for us) this coming weekend.
We do have experience RVing. We had a 1982 Volkswagen Westphalia, then a 1985 Westphalia, then a Suburban & Trailer while the kids were growing up. At this time, we are focusing on a 32 - 36' motor home to Full Time in (at least that's the plan right now). Plus, we are in the process of downsizing our home and as we do that we are starting to get rid of STUFF that we know won't fit with our planned lifestyle when we get rid of that house.
Welcome! We live in Placerville, not too far from you. We have loved this site and everyone on it has been so helpful. We've been planning for a year now and hope to be out this summer. I won't be working but my husband will still be working FT from our new "home". We are in our early 50s. Keep the dream goin'!
Welcome! Great people on here, and a lot of help with tons of useful information. I'm getting closer and closer to full-time, even though I haven't gotten my rig yet. Soon I will be doing the happy dance. Again, welcome!
You're in the fun stage now, looking at all kinds of rigs and touring them, planning and dreaming. You'll find this site invaluable and even though you have lots of camping experience we recommend signing up for a RV-Dreams Rally even if you stay in a hotel.
The Rallys are packed full of information, sharing and fun! Just watch Linda get everyone loosened up and starting to sing and dance. You'll also make friends for sure.
Sherry
