Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Eastern state

not sure if DC is on your list but we stayed here http://www.greenvillecampground.com/HOME_PAGE.html

it is nothing special but it's not bad and is out of the hub bub of metro DC while still convenient, plus their rate is one of the lowest in the area.

I would suggest taking the Metro Subway into the city versus trying to drive (and park!). They make it very easy and fairly economical to tour all the sites. We also took an evening Segway tour of downtown. We wanted to see all the monuments plus the White House and Capitol Building lit up at night and this was a fantastic way to do it. The tour lasted for a couple of hours but was one of the highlights of our time there. We spent 4 full days taking in all the sights and museums and the good thing is they were all free.

We agree with Phil on the DC area. The Metro is the best way to get around DC.  Easy to use and very convenient.

Usually when returning from Maine or any part of the NE we have usually come down I-81 & 77 & 26 to avoid the heavy traffic and lack of scenery on I-95.  We have found this to be a great route.

We always used www.rvparkreviews and found good places to stay.  After jumping off I-81 on to I-77, there is a great campground adjacent to Mt. Airy, which is the area that Mayberry RFD was filmed and the home of Andy Griffith.  A great place to spend a couple of days, if such interests you.

Once you get to I-26 in Columbia, SC take it all the way to Charleston, SC just east of I-95.  James Island State Park is wonderful and convenient to that beautiful city. Plan at least three days to do it justice. You can travel south on US 17 into Savannah.

After Charleston, you will be primed for Savannah.  There the Skidaway Island State Park is wonderful.  Spend at least a few days touring the city.  I lived there for 36 years, (very near Skidaway State Park).

Travelling South on I-95 another wonderful place is Coastal GA RV Resort just south of Brunswick.  Only five years old, this one of the nicest places to stay to explore St. Simons and Jekyll Islands. Not to miss!

St. Augustine, FL is our nation’s oldest city and a wonderful place to spend a few days.  Anastasia Island State Park is convenient to town and a great place to stay.

Hopefully some others will join in and cover some of the other areas.

We have finally made our way to the eastern states after leaving Oregon in Nov.!! We will be in Gettysburg Pennsylvania mid August and will probably start our trek back south down the eastern seaboard at that point. We would probably go farther north (but like we were told we would see) the campgrounds are getting smaller and the costs are certainly going up but the densely populated areas are going to chase us off .

But we want to enjoy being over here while we are doing it because we may not be back so are there any good tips on places along the seaboard like places to stay?

Thanks for the tips!! We will be researching all of them. And I'm sure Diane would love to do DC but we really put forth a effort to avoid big cities. But then again we should belly up and see it while we can.

I've had extensive viewing in Washington, D.C.  As seniors in high school, we took a week long trip to D.C. and saw a lot of stuff.  Then, I was stationed about 30 miles west of D.C. when I was in the Army.  We were there for TDY duty to take a new school and while waiting for our visas and passports to arrive, a bunch of us toured D.C. over about 5 weeks.  The Smithsonian Museum is fantastic in itself, but it requires a lot more than a few days to see it all.

If caverns are of interest to you, there are some "kind of" in that area.  My youngest son worked out in Herndon, VA for a couple of months or so.  Jo went out while he was there and spent a week there so the two of them could do some sightseeing.  (Jo had never seen that area before.)

Then of course, there are historical sites like Mount Vernon, Civil War battlefields, and so many other places.

I am pleased that I worked 15 miles south of DC for about 9 years. Never made much $$$'sss but seen a lot of interesting things I most likely never will again. Seen Rolling Thunder; The Mall and was part of many events; Mannassas Battle Field, Annapolis and the Naval Academy and Harbor.
I drove up through Hannibal; Missouri and wanted a ride on the Tom Sawyer paddle wheeler; but the Miss. River was to high. Never made it to Mt. Rushmore or Yellowstone or Glacier Natl. Park.
If you never done it and you are that close....Better do it...cause you may never pass that way again.

I went and looked them up.  There are a number of caverns in Virginia, should you be interested.  Here's a link:

Lucky Mike is right on the mark.....if you pass up NE and the Maine area you are missing something special.....beautiful riding and camping near Bar Harbor and Acadia NP.

You cannot pass up Mt. Washington and the White Mtns.

Lots to do with out getting near big cities.

Enjoy,

Les

Alright,,, we are seriously thinking about continuing north. First we are headed to Beach Fork State Park next week and then will work our way to Gettysburg for the Blue Grass festival mid August from the 13th to 20th. Then we plan to stay maybe a week in Intercourse Pennsylvania in the Amish area. So we will have until then to figure a good route north. I hear there are a bunch of toll roads to deal with. Hmmm,, never dealt with toll roads before. Should be interesting for us country bumpkins LOL!!

most toll roads in New England are avoidable unless your planning on going to the cities
