Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

From East Texas to Tucson

We are driving west across Texas and need advice on I-10 into NM and AZ. Need to get there for family so no sight seeing this time along the way. I'm a little concerned about the stretch near the Mexico border. Is it saFe along that part? Any RV park recommendactions?  Thanks

I-10 will be no problem. Parks at most towns. Have stayed at a lot of them without any problems.

I would avoid stopping near El Paso unless you need to dump sewage, but that's a different thread. You are only near the boarder from Sierra Blanca, TX to Las Cruces, NM. Other than that you shouldn't be bothered by border patrol. Isn't that what you meant?

The crazy drivers in El Paso are the main issue and don't stay in El Paso itself, it isn't safe. (There is a bypass route of US54 north, 3255 north into NM, then NM404 west back to I-10). There are Passport America campgrounds along the way if you have that.  There is a steakhouse south of El Paso where you can have dinner and be locked in all night to boondock - http://www.cattlemanssteakhouse.com/.    Van Horn, TX has just banned RVs overnighting except in a campground, so I would avoid it.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm feeling more confident doing that route now. Haven't been to a Cattlemen's Steak house in quite a while...sounds mighty tasty.

We winter in Casa Grande, AZ and our daughter is now living in Abilene, TX. We have made 5 round trips between the two places in the last 18 months. It is a pretty desolate drive, with very few RV parks along the way...especially between ElPaso and Midland/Odessa. We now stay at the Escapees Parks in Pecos, TX and in Deming, NM on our drive. There are some nice parks in Las Cruces as well. Passport America Parks listed in Sierra Blanca, TX are now defunct as are some of the ones in Van Horn. The Abilene RV parks are okay, but certainly not wonderful. On two trips we had major vehicle problems and while not impossible, we had to wait a very long time for help to arrive. (advantage of having your house with you!) Happy travels!

I'll check out the Escapees Parks, good idea. I knew it would be a desolate part of highway! Thanks for the suggestions.

Slightly off topic here, but keep in mind that even "desolate" places have their own kind of beauty.  One just has to keep their eyes and minds open for the beauty.  I was raised in the Oklahoma Panhandle and a lot of that is tree-less and with miles and miles of nothing but farmland and some grassland sections.  But, when the Yucca is blooming, those grasslands can be a place of beauty.

Here is a place about 20 miles from my hometown and right off of the "only" highway through that area.

Winter Windmill

And, a desolate desert, as in Utah, revealed this to me.

Desert flower

Wherever your travels take you, look for the opportunity to see the beauty.
