Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Dale is hoping to hit the road in early April, driving to OK to pick up our 5'ver and bring it home. I know the mountain pass laws in WA and OR require carrying tire chains through April 1. Anyone know of a site that lists these requirements for all states or am I going to need to search on each state's DOT site? Trying to avoid this expense if we can do so legally since after this trip we do not plan to be driving in the mountains during times of year when snow is possible..
I believe most passes have places to rent chains if they are required. So if planning just one trip I would check that out. You may not need them when you get there.
Requirements are different for private vehicles than for commercial. I believe the rule is that chains are only required in private vehicles when the hiway patrol deems them necessary. Commercial must have them on board at all times in certain months regardless of weather. In April and later I wouldn't go to the expense unless the weather dictates. The odds are that you won't encounter any weather. Knock, knock. This late in the year high passes are the only places that snow is likely to be a problem. If you do see enough snow to warrant chains, it would be smarter to wait 24 hours. It will clear.
