Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Another Family member died from Alzheimer's!

crycry I got informed of the death of another brother taken by this horrific disease. The spring of 2006 he was in the hospital for surgery and removal of 16" of a perforated large intestine. That fall he was diagnosed with alzheimer's and was admitted to a nursing home in  the Spring of 2007. Been there ever since and died yesterday evening; just turned 70 in Dec. Another brother had died of it in the Fall of 2006 at the age of 66 & 1/2.

 I also have a sister who is in the hospital at the age of 77; diagnosed with it and complications of COPD. My mother died at the age of it at the age of 61. My mom started the symptoms of it when I was 11 & 1/2 and died just after my 16th birthday. One brother i watched over for 3 + Yrs.

  I have been well informed of Alzheimer's and try to follow the latest technologies of it. I try to keep my mind active, by reading and taking surveys and quizzes to help with mental clarity. Yes; I know it is a family disease as 4 of her 6 brothers and a sister died of it. My biggest concern is that it is more stressful and emotional on the caregivers than the person with it.

  I have myself; who will be 62 this July and another brother who is 69; so far we are doing well. Our oldest brother died from an exploded heart in 1989 at the age of 58.

   Do I have concern about this disease affecting me? Yes!!! I try to live each day to the fullest since my Heart Attack the 30th of March 2012. I live one day at a time and Thank the Good Lord at the end of each day and when I first open my eyes in the morning which I know is going to be a good day!!! confuseconfusewinkwink

So sorry about your brother. I've read your posts for a long while and can tell you that you have nothing to worry about (Alzheimer's) for some time! biggrin

So sorry to hear of your loss. You are in our prayers.

A girl I work with is from an area of India where they use a lot of coconut oil. She told me tha her grandmother is 80 years old and her hair is still black. She said that many older people there do not look their age. Makes you wonder if there isn't something to this.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It's a terrible disease and a poor way to live when they should be enjoying their years of retirement.

My 94 (on this Saturday) year old Dad lives with us. He has stage 4 dementia and is moving towards the next stage which is loss of muscle control. He spends the days at an adult senior care facility near my office. I believe the care and social interactions during the day has gone a long way to keep him with us longer.

Recently, after watching a doctor's report, I began giving him two tablespoons of pur coconut oil each day. A chemical in the pure coconut oil helps to reignite and keep the brain connections firing. It works for Alzheimer and dementia patients as well as folks with some other diseases including skin problems. Within a week both the caregivers at the daycare and myself noticed an improvement in his cognitive abilities and motor skills. He is like he was about two years ago.

I understand if you do what is called "oil pulling" with the coconut or sesame seed oil the results are even better. He can't do the oil pulling due to his dementia and inability to follow multi step instructions. Do a Google search on oil pulling the testimonials are remakable.

A friend does it and he claims he feels better and is losing weight. He says the process of oil pulling helps keep him from getting hungry so he's not eating in between meals like he used to.

By the way it helps whiten your teeth....

Pieere, Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your brother. My brother, whoalso just turned 70 has been declining in health for more than 3 years now and is in a nursing home. He has what is called Lewy Body Dementia, something like Alzheimers. So sad. God bless you. And thank you for your frequent posts. Pat K

Sorry to hear about your brother, and all the others lost in your family.  You can know that many here at RV Dreams, ourselves included, are thinking of you and wishing you well.

I'm also going to look into that Coconut oil idea as well.  Thanks for that tip, Bear.

Losing siblings is very hard and losing them to brain issues makes it even harder. I know, I have been there.

My wife worries about this since both sides of her family have dementia issues as they get older.

Pieere I am sorry for you loss of your brother. I know how you feel as I lost one brother to heart attack at 57 and one at 54. My valve replacement at 56 put me right in between them. Yes we have to live like we are dying and also realize that EVERYONE is terminal. Take care......live life fully each day..... and know that I am thinking of you.

Pierre, So sorry for your loss. My most sincere prayers and sympathies go to you and your family. I saw firsthand the devistation of Alzheimers as my mother-in-law lived with us for 15 years with the last 4 having that dreaded disease. My wife left her job and stayed home with her thru the end. Watching her wittle away from a once vibrant person was sad but at least when she passed it was in our arms so she had comfort. Whether or not any of us get something like this only GOD knows and if that is the case all we can then do is take one day at a time. I will pray for your comfort knowing your brother is in a better place now. GOD Bless. Les

As always; I appreciate all the replies!! Knowing that they are not suffering now is very comforting!! I do have many great memories of the time when they and I had done so many activities together. I am the youngest and the age ranged from next at 7.5 yrs to the oldest; a 19 yr. difference with the brothers and a 17.5 yr. difference with my only sister.
