Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Update on Pierre!

biggrinbiggrin Went to the Doc yesterday and he said I should feel .15-20 yrs younger in 3-6 months. cry Now I have to be patient to let everything heal proper. I can't lift over 10 #'s, no over exertion and have to give up Ice-Creamfurious.

I wish to thank everyone for their support and well-wishes!wink Maybe after I get my retirement income in 16 months will be able to do more traveling and meet up with some of you for a cup-o-joe and chat around the campfire. Pieere

"Have to give up ice cream."  ??????????????

Whoa, that is harsh!!!

Seriously though, it is good to hear that news.  But be careful.....

.....feeling 15 to 20 years younger might get you into doing things that the "still older" body isn't up to.

Years ago, my father-in-law had surgery and afterwards, he felt so good that he went back to work on his ranch.  Next thing he knew, he was back in the hospital having his first surgery repaired.

Be very careful, Pierre.

Take it easy and you will get there! It's amazing how the body heals if you give it time.

Sending healing wishes and wishing you rejuvenation of body & spirit.

As a survivor of 3 heart attacks in 2 years around 20 years ago I can tell you it doesn't mean you can never have things you like it just means moderation. No doubt you have to live a healthier life style but don't think you have to give up the things you love totally. If you punish yourself to much you will drive yourself to want them more.

Started back to work today; 11:30 am to 4:15 pm. Good to have employers who are understanding and they only hired me for three months; my 2nd season here. I will try 9:00 am to noon and 1:00 to 4 PM tomorrow. Sure don't want to undo what the Doctors did. Thanks  everyone and haven't had a reason to light up; plenty of reasons not too! smilesmile   Pieere

Pieere, quitting smoking after my first heart attack(22 years now) was easy but as time went on my eating habits would wander way off track.THAT for me was the hardest and still is the hardest to monitor.Glad to hear you have good employers that let you work a little.3 weeks after my first I was in my shop a couple hours each day building a race car.Getting rid of stress is the most important thing.

Pierre, haven't been on the blog lately so just found out about your health problems. Don't give up on Fulltiming as you already know our story. Currently, we are sitting at "home base" where my husband just had his Defib changed out because the batteries were dying. He's doing good and we expect to be in Wisconsin on May 8th to fulfill our summer job obligation.

You know we were at Amazon last winter where my husband worked. Although due to the Defib he was only allowed to work the basic 40 hours per week but he worked.

Hope you're soon as good as new!

Pierre, glad to see you are back at it.

My DH Terry had a heart attack at 45 - five years ago. He since has had 4 stents installed. Uncontrolled Diabetes didn't help and neither did driving truck for a living.

We quit driving truck, settled into a more sedate life and work for a few years and now are back on the road in a MUCH more stress-LESS lifestyle as mobile OSHA hearing technicians.

He's been more aware of what he eats every day and pays attention to quantity, but NO he did NOT give up ice cream, just enjoys it in moderation vs. a half-gallon at a time! And milk .. he used to drink a whole gallon in a few days - by himself. Now, we don't even buy milk, just organic half-n-half for coffee every now and then :D

He still doesn't have the strength he had before the heart attack, but I tell him he's getting older so "settle down and enjoy it. There's no need to push anymore." When he thinks about it, he works his upper body & arms to maintain some of the muscle he used to have, but it does frustrate him NOT to be able to lift heavy things easily, like he used to.

I will have to get one of those signs "Old Age Ain't For Sissies!" and hang it over his bed as a reminder:D

One Day A Time .... you'll get there. Keep us posted on your progress!

biggrinbiggrin Here it is the 23rd of April and 17 days since I have been home (RV) and 25 days since the first two stints.

I have not smoked since and at times it is a little rough on my attitude; but so far success. I am starting to feel better day by day. Beginning the second week of work but taking it slow and steady.

Maybe I won't be able to lift what I use too. I am just so grateful for having a few more hours on this planet! I told a few here that I have "four of my cat lives left"  LOL! Already used up 5 of them.

I just hope I am able to keep up with the new heathier food diet. It is more expensive to purchase with less sodium and fat-free foods.

It use to cost me $125.00 month for smokes; now it will cost me $243.00 for the medications I have to take; but it will be to regain health instead of destroy it.

Gaining some strength back and did manage 30 hours of work this week. I have an Appt. with the Dr. on the 17th and praying for good news. My diet is a struggle; but success with not smoking and don't miss them. I have had problems with gastritis and went to a Doctor a about 30 months back; Gave me Zantac and no success, then tried Gas-X worked a little but raising the head of the bed about 2 inches worked best. Since the Heart attack I seem to have less problems.
One of the reasons I started smoking again in Oct 2011 after 16 months of being smoke free; was everyone I seen who stopped smoking seemed to suddenly have more health problems: heart; stomach, colon; breathing; Etc. It also seems to have an effect on increasing dementia. That was my scapegoat and denial.
Oh! And I refuse to use the stop smoking pills; patch; the E-cig that also is proven drug related trash to cause more health problems.
I will do it this time regardless of the health problems which may crop up. Pieere

Here I am at Beech Bend Splash lagoon in Bowling green Ky. The temperature today got to 106 and the 100's are suppose to last another week. I work here as a ride operator and am suppose to stay out of direct sun and excessive heat. I am suppose to return to work in the AM after a couple days break. Have to be super careful and will see if i can handle the heat. i spoke with the park manager today and explained the situation; told her; may have to make my day short due to the heat-wave. She agreed. I will not jeoprodize my health even if i have to resign; which will reduce my finances to no income coming in.

Pieere your tag line says it all. Life IS too short and you have to be alive to live it. Some of us are blessed to even be here. This is my first month that I haven't doctored since December. Had not been sick in years. Put on respirator twice, given less than 3 months to live, open heart surgery, and just finished a biopsy of mass in my left breast. Doctors couldn't believe this as I am only 56. Talk about an life lesson! Be thankful, live each day, and take the very best care of YOU! Will continue to follow your progress.

Janni: God blessed you! And you take care of you also. Oh: I am grateful that I'm still on this planet; as if I had been 7-10 minutes later; the Doc told me that they could not have done anything for me. I was brought back with an adrenaline booster. some people don't believe in miracles and I know we are both are. Had to reschedule my appt for July 5th.

Went to the Doc yesterday; so far only good news. My biggest problem is working outside; I stay in the shade but when the temp is 100+ in the shade it still takes a toll on my health. The temperatures are suppose to be better starting next Tuesday, if not I may have to resign my job.

Pierre - As far as your health is concerned that's number 1. I went through the something several years ago and that opened my eyes that I was not as invincible as I once thought. Do what you can and the heck with the rest, it probably wasn't that important any way.

Keep your chin up and keep pushing foreward. But do take time to smell the roses once in a while.

Yours surgery is NOT the end of the road, just a minor curve in the road to overcome. I had a quad bypass in 1998 and been good ever since. Quit smoking this past Febuary, so I know how hard it can be, but we both know it is worth it.

Steer safe, there will be other curves.

Mike,

Needless to say, our thoughts and prayers are for you as well.  Your instance slightly reminds me of basic training.  In our basic company one of the guys came down with measles.

Guess who was the ONLY other guy to catch them.  Since it was measles, they put me in an isolation ward that was full of guys with pneumonia and upper respiratory infections.  I was sicker when I came out than I was when I went into the hospital.

Get well and get back out there.

Wow: Lucky is the right term for your name. I believe that I am trying to rush my health back. I told the Doctor due to the lack of conventional insurance; that I have to continue employ in order to meet expenses and keep my motorhome due to lack of a permanent domicile. I also am doing my best to eat healthy, get enough exercise and stay quit from smokes. The VA picked up most of the hospital charges; but I am responsible for doctors office visits and believe that my care is less than if I had conventional insurance. have another year before I can collect a pension which will meet basic expenses.

I am also one who will not rely on social services to provide medical or daily living expenses. Going to need all the prayers I can get and also for you and many others. Pieere

I had open heart surgery 2 years ago and a stroke before in the same time frame. Doc said come major holidays and your birthday enjoy yourself, the other days behave yourself and watch what you eat.

Father's day was coming up and he said he was going to enjoy a Ribeye, then back to behaving.

Pierre

Have the Doc that ordered the Ultra sound book it for you at the VA, 3 to 4 months is unacceptable you need to pay the VA a visit face to face and insist that they take care of your request ASAP. Are you eligible to go to a military facility, if so pay them a visit?

Heres a link for the VA web site

http://www.tennesseevalley.va.gov

Not 100% sure but when you quit a job I believe there's a 4 week waiting period and you can request unemployment compensation.

I had to quit the job at Beech Bend In Ky on July 23rd; the heat and humidity was more than the body and heart cold handle. I signed up for unemployment. I came down to the Nashville area of TN. to try and get the ultra-sound done with the VA Hospital. I have called and was told that it would take 3-4 months just to get an appointment. My unemployment was denied due to my quitting the job which leaves me to look for employment and realize that I can no longer do the strenuous work I used to do. I have until Oct. 1st to hopefully locate work here or another work camping job. Keep me in your prayers! Pieere

Thoughts and prayers for you Pierre. I have a friend who is waiting on the VA for a hip replacement. What he finally did was consult with another orthopedist and that doctor got in touch with the VA. It did move the wait time so might be worth a try in your case also. The echo and EKG are critical in follow up as that is how they check your progress. After all you have gone through to get your life back, taking care of it once or twice a year shouldn't be to much to ask. I will have my second echo and EKG next month and hope for good reports. Will be thinking of you in the days ahead and keep us posted.

Maybe; Just Maybe; With a whole lot of PRAYER and a pinch of luck! I may have a place to stay for the next few months. Applied to a VA Center in Hopkinsville; KY after a whole lot of sweat and tears trying to scan and email 8 pages of information. I have been informed that I am #2 on the waiting list. This will allow a place to stay for a few of the colder months. I am apprehensive; anxious; excited and hoping this turns out for the best. They have housing for Veterans in need of medical, rehabbing, and short-term stays. Told I should be expecting to hear from them in the next 5-7 days.
I spent 5 hours plus filling out the SSD forms the past couple days; and if that don't get approved will be ready to work at the YB park in March and have my early SS to assist my work camping employ. Trying to do the footwork laying the track so the train don't derail. Pieere

Hoping only the best for you, keeping you within our circles...

Again Pierre if you need guidance through SSD/SSI let me know. I just finished that nightmare maze and had to hire Attorney's to get thru it the second time. so I got to figure out the ups and downs and paper pushes fast.

Let me know.....your first on my find me list in the spring , got a couple of micro business's that after this bout I am going to have to let go..........give you first dibs!!!

See you in the spring , unless I escape from here earlier...(I swear some of the nurses used to be Wrestlers Here)....But all is going forward for me here.

KEEP up the forward motion.......small steps create great distances with less errors!!!!!!!!

Lucky Mike: I got through the maze of papers and finally have them submitted. Putting us through that should qualify anyone for approval. Have to go to the SS office to file for SSI however, have until Dec. 12th to do that.
Pleased to hear that your doing well and in good spirits. Hope to see you in the Spring and curious about those micro businesses! And steer clear of those wrestlers---er---nurses; LOL! I have been told it has to get worse---before it gets better; so I'm banking on the BETTER! As soon as I find out about the Veterans Center I will let you know. Pieere

Maybe just Maybe!!! I called the Doctor office where I had the stents done and spoke with the nurse about the side effects of the Statin meds I take. Lack of energy; muscle aches and pains and fatigue. Also mentioned getting the test results from Oct. 19th at the VA Hospital. I could not believe that the VA would not release information to them. My doctor told her that I could stop the statin and take Co Q 10 which is found in the Vitamin section and also helps lower my LDL and triglycerides and has no side effects. Pieere

Gene: Thank You and you are so right. I use the medpage; medlinePlus and Mayo clinic; Vanderbilt and John Hopkins website and others to do searches. After the prescriptions I took from 1985-1993 that messed me up so much; I only took Tylenol occasionally. I was addicted to Vicodin which near drove me nuts when I weaned myself from it. Seems like all prescription meds have adverse side effects.

Thank you for your continued support and concern! Pieere

Have to rattle on again! I have been off the statin---Zocor for 14 days now and already feel the difference; not much pain and the energy level seems to be improving. I have spent 5 hours of exercise today, 45 minutes of raking dirt, 30 minutes of riding a bike and 3 hrs and 45 minutes between walking walking and moving around.
If nothing else at least it made me feel better about myself!!! I was getting very depressed over not being able to do much of anything other than making my meals and getting outside for 30 minutes of the day. I am not trying to push myself to hard, but the doctor agrees a positive outlook will help me heal. PIEERE

Set the bar my friend....clear it , raise it and go for it again!!!!!!!...........most of all master it , for it is you yourself that control the challenges....

you are only defeated when you accept defeat..........and no challenge was ever completed without thinking it through and planning each step......

Take care Bro" Hopefully see you guys soon!....(really would like to play with the semephore project!!)

WTG! Sounds like a step in the right direction, Pieere. They took that ball and chain off me the end of last week and it is good to be back walking and joining the ranks of the active again. I returned to a cardio class and felt like I had never done it before :( It IS getting better and I will not quit. Time will heal us and that positive attitude plays a big part. Accept defeat? Never.
Thanks for the update. TC

My Wife's reaction to various statin's was so severe that is one of the things that caused us to give up full timing.Hard to get well seeing different Dr's all the time and getting mis-diagnosed.As soon as we settled in and the Dr.figured out the problem she has steadily started getting her strength back and the muscle pains are pretty much gone now.Hang in there Pieere it does get better.
