Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello Folks ,

 planning a Spring trip to Disney and will be travelling with the entire family , pets as well. We would like to stay as close to the beach as possible as this is more of an adult family with young children. I would think 2 days at the park and about 5 days at the beach / local sites. We are travelling with truck and 38' fiver.

Don't know if you want to spend this much, but the Beverly Beach Camptown and RV Resort http://www.beverlybeachcamptown.com/   is right on the beach and just a little North of Daytona.

We've stayed there a few times, for only a day or two, but can tell you that it's nice and you can park with your RV right up to the sea wall, just like the pictures on the web site show. And the beach is real nice too.

They have pull-in and back-in sites, so it doesn't matter if you have a trailer or a MH. You will have a great view of the ocean.

Like I said, very pricey, (for us), but we enjoy a day or two, maybe once a year.

There's also a FL State Park further North, but we have never been able to get in there without making reservations way in advance.

seems a bit pricey , yes. Does this location have a pool at all ? looks interesting. Do you know the name of the state park ?

I think the state park Jim is referring to is Gamble Rogers.  We've stayed there several times but you do need to make a reservation way in advance or get lucky and find a cancellation.  You might try a bit further north in St. Augustine.  Anastasia State Park is very nice and close to the beach.  Just north of St. Augustine take a look at North Beach Camp Resort.

International RV Park is on International Blvd. It's about 2 miles to the beach, reasonable and has a pool and laundry. We've stayed there a couple of times before the Nascar race in July and have always been pleased. It's not ON the beach, but since you can drive on the beach in Daytona it's still easy to get to.

thank you ! would St. Augustine still be within reasonable driving distance to Disney ? sorry .. being a little geographically challenged here .. I seem to recall Daytona being a fairly close drive to the theme parks.

St. Augustine is further away from Orlando. You might find something more to your liking in the Mims/Titusville/Cocoa Beach (Cape Canaveral/Space Coast) area since that is closer to the theme parks than Daytona Beach.

Sorry... when I suggested St. Augustine I didn't understand that you'd be commuting to Disney.  Bill is right about the Cocoa/Titusville area.  It's actually due east of Orlando and an easy drive.  In that area check out Jetty Park in Port Canaveral or Manatee Hammock in Bellwood.

You might also try Great Outdoors RV Park and Nature Preserve. It's not on the beach, but a really nice place with great amenities. It was also very reasonable when we stayed there a couple of years ago.

Yes Ron that was the plan , we have older children with us as well so the plan was to have our main camp near the beach and do day trips to Disney .. I love the Idea of being close to Nasa .. even if the shuttles aren't going anywhere soon. The Great Outdoors looks very nice actually .. Would most parks offer any kind of Disney rebates ? or should we purchase packages before we even leave ? the plan is to head down for Easter weekend. Thanks so much everyone .. Janet and I are pretty new to this RV stuff :)

My experience you would probably have better luck / get a better deal with park tickets before you leave. I don't recall seeing many discounts/rebates from the local RV parks.

Afew years back I stopped at South of The Border on I-95 South in South Carolina and they had discount coupons for Disney! Wow; All the South go me Tongue-Twisted! LOL!

Just came back from Disney in Orlando....I am sure you will be going to Disney for more than one day....would you want to drive back and forth from the coast.....each day??? We stay for a long day and into the evening in the Parks...would not want a long drive to get "home" each day. There are a lot of great camping around Kissimmee and Orlando and Davenport (where we stayed). We were 10 minutes from the main gate of WDW.

I would have to agree with Mel. Since you said 2 days at Disney why not stay close or at Fort Wilderness for a couple of nights and then move to the coast. Staying close will allow you to take advantage of the late evening/night offerings Disney has (fireworks,parades etc).
One advantage for staying in Fort Wilderness at Disney is they open one "world" an hour early every day for their guests staying at one of their properties. This really helps getting into the more popular attractions plus you can take advantage of the Disney transportation system.
Fort Wilderness is pricey but well worth the $$ in my opinion.

If this is your first Disney trip go to a book store and pick up the "Unofficial Guide to Disney World" and study up. This shows you how to make the best of your time at Disney and, again, is worth the $$ IMHO.

Have a safe trip and let us know what you decide and how the trip goes!

Old Sugar Mill Campground in New Smyra, its the next exit or 2 south. Easy access to US1 for the beach area, pool, decent sites.
We overnited there on our way to Key West, so didn't have time to check out alot of amenities.

There is another RV Park just a bit down the road from Old Sugar Mill in New Smyrna. We stayed there a couple years ago and it was nice. Pool and beach were a big hit with our 2 late teen nieces. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the place, but it was on the same road as Old Sugar Mill

We whole heartedly agree with Phil about staying in the park. We have not stayed at Fort Wilderness but are planning to do so with our Grandkids next spring.  We have hotel stayed outside and inside Disney and there just is not a good comparison to staying in the park for all of the reasons Phil stated.

Better than Sugar Mill campground is the one next door on Mission Rd. http://www.beachcamp.net     It used to be a KOA but is now privately owned.  We have stayed here and the people are very friendly and the sites are nice.  Good pool and about 10 minutes to the beach.  You will love the town of New Smyrna too.  It is a destination in itself. We are from New Smyrna, so are partial to it's beaches over Cocoa.

Our last trip to Disney was about 10 years ago and we actually rented a home in Kissimme ,that was the best. This is more of a beach trip as we have the older kids along with us but our youngest is 8 and I know Magic Kingdom will be a hit with her. Phil I like your idea .... I seem to recall the coast being a fairly close drive ? would we need to book well in advance for a site at Disney ? thanks everyone .. you've all been very helpful ! and I cant wait to hit the road !!

The coast is not too far of a drive from Disney and yes, book early. I would call right away since Spring Break is coming up and I'm sure it will be a busy place.

 We'll vouch for New Smyrna Beach RV Park as well.  We stayed there for a long weekend about a year ago and it was great.  All the sites are nice but I kind of liked those up closer to the front nearer the office the best. We were in the back right part of the campground and it appeared there were more permanent and seasonal residents there.  Everyone was very nice though and we enjoyed our stay.

I think New Smyrna Beach RV Park was where we stayed as well.  Very nice place a couple years ago.  Nice pool and easy drive to the beach.

we're booked ! Fort Wilderness it is .. we've decided to spend 5 days at Disney and make the Space Center and Daytona part of the return trip back home .. just makes sense. Again , Janet and I have to thank you all for the help planning .. Which would be the preferred route ? I-75 or I-77 ? I've heard I-77 has much more steeper grades and less frequent areas to stop ? is this true or the mountains the same either way ? Thanks again

 We traveled south on I-75 Saturday headed to Gatlinburg, TN.

  There is road slipage at MP 144 south bound in TN. The interstate is down to one lane south and two lanes north.

Took us only 20 minutes to get through, but a friend came down Friday night and took 90 minutes to go 31 miles.

Their saying 4-6 months for repairs. Other than that we made good time getting to here.

thanks for the heads up ! I heard I-75 through Virginia has steeper grades and less stops etc but 75 seems pretty straight forward.

 We stayed at our cabin in Gatlinburg. Took the grandkids there for spring break.

 We had a great time and the wild flowers where starting to bloom.

 Hiked the Porter's Creek trail and went out to Cades Cove.
