Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Prescriptions

How do folks handle medicine refills. Do doctors cooperate?

If it is an ongoing prescription you should get it to one of the National chains like CVS, Wal-Mart or Rite Aid as this can be refilled at any of their stores. If you need a new prescription you should let your doctor know that you have plans to travel. He can phone in a prescription to a pharmacy and he might have information on what the best way to do this would be.

We use Walgreen's and have been able to get refills almost any place in the country.

If you are military retired on Tricare, Walgreens no longer participates.

We have been using Walgreens for quite a while.  No problems so far.

They even call us when we are due for the next month's refill.  Of course, by then we are somewhere else, but Terry just goes inside the local Walgreens and they look up the info - and refill it right then.

For 2012 we asked his Dr. for 3 month Rx so we can have a 90 day supply filled & mailed to us.  That took about 2 weeks from submission to having them in our hand, but we are hoping it will work welll for the duration of our travels.

I use Walgreen's also, and have not had a problem. I do ask the doctor's for a 90 day prescription. That means that I only have to fill it 4 times per year and I am usually close to a Walgreen's by then. The nice thing about Walgreen's over a Walmart pharmacy is that the Walgreen's computer system is national. By that I mean that if you take a prescription to a Walgreen's in one town, their computer system will allow it to be filled at any Walgreen's pharmacy in the country. That differs from the Walmart system in that a Walmart pharmacy will have to first transfer the prescription from the store where you first had it filled to the one you are in now, before they can fill it. That works but just takes a lot longer. When I used them, it would sometimes add as much as an hour to get the prescription transferred before they would even begin to fill it. At least that is the way it used to work. Now might be different as I haven't used the Walmart pharmacies in a while.

That's just my opinion!

I had a pharmacy experience recently (Jan. and Feb. 2012) to add. I had to have a new prescription and got it filled at Walgreens. It was 80.00 for a month with Blue Cross copay. I went to have it refilled as we had moved. Decided to try WM and got three months for 40.00! She said if I have to stay on it that it will be even less next refill. I am NOT a fan of WM but that price difference has made my decision.

We use Walmart, and they have never given us any problem with a script transfer.
