Thanks for the reminder. I made an assumption that you try to never post personal information and that would include GPS information of friends or family. We were planning to use the GPS tagging for our scenic and travel pictures.

Privacy is a tough thing to keep with all the tools available on the Internet. It's a little easier for us with no home base because we won't inadvertanly let people know where our unprotected home is while we travel. We even make it a point to avoid indicating which campground we are currently in simply to keep it a little more private.

I teach a number of university technology classes which deal with privacy issues that we face today with our personal information and the widespread use of mass media. It can be a little scary and people need to be informed.

Glad you understand. There is very little privacy on the Internet and people need to understand it. Right now a father is showing his daughter how little privacy she had on Facebook with a Youtube video with the video going viral. GEO tagging has its place and you have a good reason to do it. It is also reasonable to GEO tag family photos when you are all somewhere else, like a Disney property, and you post them afterward. In many years of posting my campsite location I haven't had anyone but friends try to find me.

A friend got in trouble with his daughter-in-law because he GEO tagged photos at her house with the grandkids and posted them in a blog and Facebook. The daughter-in-law said now some sick person can find their house and stalk the kids. He learned to turn off the GEO tagging when taking sensitive photos. Basically just a warning to not have GEO tagging on all the time and to be aware of it when it is on.

Not to put a damper on the idea GEO tagging, but I have to agree with Bill on this one. We work for a state law enforcement agency and during one of our training sessions, an agent got up and showed us in detail just how easy it is for predators to glean information about people.

While the GEO tagging would be good for scenic shots and such, I wouldn't use it all the time either.

We saw that video yesterday and thought it was excellent. We raised 4 kids and each of them probably had a sense of entitlement somewhere along the line. However they have turned into some wonderful adults who are all self-sufficient and realize what it means to work hard.

I would have used a 9mm on the laptop myself!!!

In addition to using a weapon on the laptop, I might have applied a hand to an appropriate part of the child's anatomy.

Gotta love folks with cowboy hats. Now that we are in an RV, I really don't have room for one anymore.
