Travel Hwy 101 from CA to WA

CA is large, how far south are you starting? There are tons of campgrounds along the route since it is popular with RVers. The redwoods, about anywhere along the Oregon Coast, we have family in the Long Beach, WA and love to visit. If the weather is good go to Cape Flattery on the Makah Indian Reservation on foot. Take the ferry to Victoria from Port Angeles.

Hwy 101 is a nice four lane highway from LA area into San Fransico area. In the larger cities traffic can get pretty bad during rush hour so try to plan your travel during the week so you avoid the gridlock.

In Ventura we like to stay at Rincon Parkway for a nice view of the Pacific Ocean.

The Santa Barbara Zoo is a nice little Zoo to visit.

Pismo Beach has a couple of nice campgrounds and offers the opportunity to drive on the beach (no Trailer unless your TV has 4X4). In the town of Pismo there is a great Cinnamon Bun place and in nearby Shell Beach is a wonderful restaurant EF McClintocks.

You can take a day trip over to Hearst Castle off of Hwy 1.

Solvang Near Buellton is great to visit for 1/2 a day. Flying Flags RV Resort is where we stay.

In Gilroy, stop off at the fruit and vegetable stands along the road. Great garlic and onion products.

Side trip over to Carmel & Monterey to drive on the 17 mile scenic drive around Pebble Beach golf courses. Nice aquarium in Monterey.

San Jose a visit to the Winchester Mansion is unique.

All the stuff in San Francisco.

North of San Francisco, hit all of the tourist traps for some unique and interesting sights.

Travel through the redwoods.

Great train ride on the Skunk Train in Willets.

Wages creek near the Oregon border is a nice campground with great ocean views.

We spent a month in San Diego, and drove from Oceanside to San Diego on the historic 101 road. So many beautiful views. Carlsbad State Beach is a campground right on the ocean, but no hookups. Mt. Solodad in La Jolla had great views of the area. Have fun on your adventure!

You didn't mention how long your RV is. Our fiver with HDT tow vehicle is over 60 feet long. There's a campground right on Casper Beach just a few minutes north of Mendocino and worth a visit IMO. Ft. Bragg is also several minutes north of Casper Beach and offers several parks.
101 north from this point is very narrow and tight! But maneuverable. It's great to drive through the giant redwoods.
Just outside of Crescent City, CA are "The Trees of Mystery" A giant Paul Bunyan and Babe greet you. The shop is typically a tourist trap, although it offers an interesting arrangement of native american items. The treat is taking the walking tour, then the gondola tram to the top of the forest. It also very affordable.
Down the road apiece (17 miles) is Crescent City. We were lighthouse keepers for the month of October at Battery Point Lighthouse which is well worth a visit. Check the local tides though. There's also a smallish type Sea World attraction, which seems to be struggling to stay 'afloat' in todays economy.
Further north 101 will drop you into Brooking, Oregon. Plenty of RV parks. Other then the magnificent surf and beach views of the rugged coastline, IMO not much else happening in that town.
