Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Need Insurance Information, Please.

It is now "crunch time".  Our Mobile Suites arrived at the dealership yesterday, so we should have it ourselves sometime next week.

What I need now is information regarding insurance that is more specific than what I've read online.  Besides calling Miller Insurance (H&L's broker), I was looking at an outfit called RV America.  They are evidently associated with the following insurance companies:

AIG

American Modern

Foremost

GMAC

National Interstate

Progressive.

While I need to remain as objective as possible, I have heard some stories about one or two of the above that were negative.  There was also one company that would not insure the truck IF IT WASN'T HOOKED TO THE FIFTH WHEEL.

What I would like is information from as many as possible as to whether the above companies are "reputable" and "full-time RV'er friendly".  Any good things to say as well as the bad?

Also, does anyone have a suggestion for a better source?

Of course, we want to be able to insure our Ford F450, the Mobile Suites, and our Ford Explorer at one time, hopefully through the same insurance company.  Any advice or ideas from everyone would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Terry

I just went through the process, we ended up with Progressive, they had a competitive rate, and they are a large reputable company. I have a broker that i know Very well here in NY, i will give you his contact info if you would like, i can vouch for the broker 100%, Gene.

National Interstate was very good to us when we had to put in a claim last year.

Hi Terry,

We have National Interstate and have been very happy with them. We have had 3 claims with them in 4 years and our rates have not been increased and they were a pleasure to work with.

We checked with Miller a few years ago and their quote was higher than we are now paying. I don't know if state of residence is a factor, but we are in Wisconsin.

AIG - no.  I worked for an insurance agent and the customer service is awful!

Hey Terry,

I checked with several different agencies/companies and Miller  had the best rate for our 5er full-time and recreational usage.  We kept the TV insured as it is and went with Miller for the 5er.

How exciting for you...the rig is almost there!  We hear ya about it being "crunch time."  We're there, too.

Good luck with everything!

Cheers,
Bett

Terry,

We have what I consider a good policy with National Interstate.  We had a claim our first year for windshield replacement due to road debris flying up and cracking the driver's side.

Very prompt and full coverage and no increase in premium.  Previously, we were Gilbert for five years with no claims, and the premiums increased yearly.  I should have switched sooner.

One thing to consider, there will be minor complaints against nearly all insurers - goes with the territory.  Few people simply hand out compliments with a request such as yours.

Terry, for us Miller was way high on our truck compared to AARP-Hartford so we kept our insurance there but they would not cover our 5th wheel for full time. However Miller beat everybody else when it came to full time coverage on our 5th wheel.I think your State of residence has some to do with rates.
