Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Travelling south from Vancouver BC in December

Does anyone have a preferred route to Arizona from Vancouver starting out in December?  Are there specific roads to stay away?  I'm thinking that we should stick to the Interstate until well into California but I'm looking for advice.  Also any campground suggestions along the route, for this time of year would be great.

I-5 south into central California is normally safe, except you might have issues going over Siskiyou Pass at the Oregon/California border. If that pass is snowed in you can cut over to US101 via US199 at Grants Pass, Oregon, but you have to check on it before going past Grants Pass. From US101 the best route back to I-5 is CA20.
Once in Central California you have more route choices. Mine would be to switch to CA99 south of Sacramento and turn east on CA58 at Bakersfield where you can take US395 south to I-15 or connect to I-40 and take it into Arizona where you should turn south on CA95, US95 or US93 to avoid the higher altitudes.

We've traveled from Tumwater/Olympia, WA south to AZ during December and January both.  What poster Bill Joyce wrote is very good advice.  If the Siskyou's are clear I-5 is the best bet until central California.  When Siskyou's are snowy we go over to Hwy 101 near Cottage Grove, OR.  It takes an extra day or two but usually no snow there.  Have a great trip!
