Towing a 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Anyone towing a Toyota Tacoma?

I know it is not recommended in the manual, but I have heard that some have figured out a way to do it safely.

The truck is out of warranty but has been very well maintained and runs like a top.  We'd like to keep it.

It is a 2000, 4 WD, V6 that we'd like to tow four down.   We don't want to put it on a dolly or trailer.

Thanks
Randy and Pam

Not sure about the Tacoma, but I found out with my '01 F150 that any vehicle can be flat-towed. The only question is how much it will cost. Some vehicles require deeper pockets than others.

Motorhome Magazine publishes a dingy guide. http://www.motorhomemagazine.com/

add: I found this on the net...while it says the Tacoma can't be flat towed Ford told me the same thing about my F-150.  If I had decided to keep my F-150 I would have had to install 2 driveline disconnects AND all the normal items, ie. base plate.  Would have cost me almost $7K to outfit my F-150.  While I would have loved to keep my truck it didn't make sense to spend all that money for an older vehicle that was probably going to require a lot of maintenance due to age.  My point is, while Ford would tell you that my truck couldn't be flat towed I found out that in reality it could with major modifications.

Give www.remcotowing.com a holler.
Also try Googling "flat tow Toyota Tacoma" lots of perhaps additional info - but I'd stick to the words of your owners manual then Remco before any hearsay. Transmissions are not cheap..
