Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Great Ocean View

This isn't really RV related but it is travel related and I have to share a great place to stay with the RV-Dreams community.   If you ever find the need to stay in a hotel in Pismo Beach area, here's a winner:

My dad turned 90 years young and we decided to hold a family reunion at a Hotel in Pismo Beach, CA.   I had contacted 3 hotels with our requirements and received the best deal at Shore Cliff Lodge.

From check in to check out our stay at Shore Cliff Lodge was wonderful.  The staff is great, the rooms are recently redecorated and clean.

The views from our room were right out of a postcard. The hotel is perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean so when you look out the sliding glass door all you see is the ocean and waves crashing into the rocks below.  We had a 180 degree view of the coastline.

There is lots to do in Pismo Beach and surrounding areas.   Lots of great restaurants.   We spent a few hours at the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly preserve watching thousands of butterflies do their thing.  It was amazing and beautiful.

I took the MDT for a drive on the beach and let my nieces and nephews take turns behind the wheel.   They drove it without a problem, I however, came real close to getting it stuck in the soft sand.

The hotel was the perfect place to hold the reunion, we are definitely going back to spend a weekend enjoying the sights and sounds.

I agree with you on the hotel. I have stayed there multiple times and look forward to visiting again on a return trip to my home state. smile

We stayed at Pismo Coast Village RV Resort last May. A nice state park is close by it also.
We drove the F550 on the beach and of course Bob got it stuck turning around....good thing we had a shovel on board!!
Rv'ers do camp on the beach on theyre own there, but for a heavy rig I would not recommend it. At The Village you are right by the beautiful Pacific and can walk the beach and we found many sand dollars.

Speedy,

Most of the RV parks in the area are great but do not have ocean views from the RV spaces. You can walk over a dune at Pismo Coastal village to get to the ocean. It's a very nice park.

Camping on the beach at Oceano Dunes State park is the best place for ocean views while boon docking.

Have to be careful where you park, soft sand and high tide are problems since there are no designated spots. There are usually lots of 4X4s around to help pull you out if you get stuck.

The tip for parking is to back into the spot you choose. That way you can dig out in front of the tires to make a little runway to get back onto the hard sand.

Further south and north are campgrounds/state parks with ocean view sites. Gaviota, Refugio, Carpenteria are some of the southern parks.

Not too far south of there, right in LA, next to the airport, is Dockweiler Park. You park almost on the beach and look out your window to the ocean. Just outside is a bike path that goes north about 10 miles to Venice Beach and to the south to Manhattan Beach. Full hookups for about $25 (2 years ago).
