Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
This isn't exactly the right Topic but I didn't find the right one so I chose this one. We will be in Durango for the next week and are planning to spend some time in the Ridgeway campground operated by the Colorado State Parks. We don't mind towing in the mountains but occasionally get the drift from some that a road is not to be traversed. We realize that it depends on your personal stress and white knuckle factor. We just wanted to know your opinion.
We are having so much fun it is sometimes hard to be rational. Thanks in advance, Larry and Jacki

Several years ago we were staying at a campground in Montrose, CO and told the owner/manager that we were headed to Durango. He asked what we were driving, and when we told him a 34' gasser, he highly suggested that at Ridgway, we go via Telluride, Delores, Mancos and back to Durango. We did that and when we got to Durango, we drove our car back up through the mountains to see what we missed. We were glad that we had taken the detour. #1 - we got to see Telluride #2 - we were happy to have not driven the switchbacks and no railing route with the rig. As was said before it can be a personal decision.
We towed the opposite direction, from Ridgeway to Durango in 2006. Our rig then was a 35' Excel and we towed with a 2004 Dodge 3500 dually. Had no problems, there are plenty of places to pull over and let faster traffic by. If you don't hurry, you should have no problems. I should also add that I've lived in Colorado most of my adult life and mountain driving doesn't bother me at all.

Well we took a drive before towing the rig up 550 through Silverton. I guess it is just a little too exciting for us. We will go through Mancos and up 145 which is still pretty hairy at a couple of places but no where near the 15 and 20 mph hairpins at 7%+ grade. The real issue is no room for guardrails and 100-500ft to the bottom. Get the picture. It is towable. Eighteen wheelers do occasion the route. A number of motorhomes and 5th wheels are seen parked in Silverton. But it is not for us right now.
Just thought you would like to know our decision.
