Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Well when getting back after the holidays, noticed that a plant left on the finished wood breakfast table had apparently leaked and the honey colored finished table top now has a a white, water spot in the middle. Sitting here trying to figure out the best method of fixing. I could just sand the whole top and refinish, but hoping someone out there will have a suggestion? ? ?
There are a number of things to remove the white ring caused by liquid penetrating the finish. Try Googling "white ring removal" and try some of the suggestions. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, but are worth a try before refinishing the table top.
This happened to our dining room table. We rubbed it with a mixture of wood ashes and olive oil and that did the trick. It has a very dark finish though so don't know how that would do on yours. There's gotta be a way though.
I just read a short article about this today in the newspaper (Salt Lake Tribune). It was something about mayonaise, but I don't remember what else. The article was about recovering from the holidays (wine stains, carpet indentations, etc.) I just went to the trash to find the article, but my very good husband had already taken it out. Sorry, but maybe this remedy will jog someone's memory.
My number one treatment for scratches or water rings has been to rub crushed pecan meat into the surface well. It contains natural wood oil and does wonders. Again, I have always done this on dark wood without any "finish" on the surface. Not sure how it will work on light wood or wood that has been varnished.

I have the definitive answer to your white ring problem. Sprinkle some isopropyl alcohol on the ring and warm it with a hair dryer. Ring will be gone. How it works is the alcohol slightly disolves the finish and them warming it with the hair dryer causes it to reattach to the wood underneath. Have fun.
