Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I enjoyed reading Howard's journal this past week while he and Linda were at the HDT convention.
I have a nagging question. The HDTs seem to start out in the price range of $100,00. and up. Then a good, sound, sturdy built, all season 5er starts around $76,000. and goes up. So by this time you have spent somewhere around $200,000. (Wow!)
So with that said, is it just personal preference to get a 5er instead of a MH? I have looked at MH diesel with 3 slides that start around $175,000. and go up. Then you have to invest in the tow vehicle.
We have a 5er that we love and has served our family well!!! But I'm just wondering about the future and what we will want when it is just the 2 of us.
I'd love to hear from those of you that had 5ers then switched to MH and why you made the switch, which do you like the best. This could be a tough question to answer.
As a matter of fact, a used HDT can be a lot cheaper than a new light duty (super duty) pickup. Most RVer's don't buy new HDT's. HDTs can go million miles easily and many are warranted to 500,000. We talked to people who paid as little as $8,000 and many were in the $20-$40 thousand dollar range.
We could have easily bought an HDT with modifications for the same price as our new F450. That is why more and more people with heavy 5vers are choosing to go with HDTs.
So with that said, you could easily buy an HDT and an all season, heavy 5ver for less than a DP MH.
