Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

How many days before dumping?

How long can you go without going to the dump station? 


There is just 2 of us.  We went for 6 days over the Labor Day weekend without dumping.  Went to the bath house late at night for showers.  One time we used the MH shower and it was a military shower.  I didn't wash any clothes.  We ate every meal at the campsite.  We used throw away recycled paperplates.  Used the electric frying pan and the outside grill for cooking.  We used foil on the grill for vegetables and baked potatoes.  I washed in the sink whatever was used once a day.  We used our travel cups for coffee and other drinks.  The black tank was on conserve.   DH was always checking the level and he was amazed.  Said we could have lasted another day.

Hi,
There are no set 'days' you can go, it depends on the size of your tanks and how conservative you are. It sounds like your pretty conservative.
I don't think there is any real danger, the tanks just stop taking more. Most people fill the grey long before the black.
We've filled our grey tank a number of times and either the sink stops draining, or we get water standing in the shower.

You have to be careful with the washer though. Once when we first started out, we mistakenly had the grey tank valve closed and put on a wash and decided to go for a walk. As we were returning we were greeted with water running out the front door.
Boy, you never saw an old man run so fast in your life.
Good lesson though. You can bet that's never happened again!

We found it helpful to be parked in a full hookup spot but pretend we were dry camping. So we used our own water tank and had the black and gray tanks closed. That way you can go to the max and see how long it really is for you.


We can go 7 days with a navy shower everyother day, hair washing for me everyday, using the toilet as needed (not trying to conserve), using paper dishes as much as possible and washing dishes once a day.


When the water rises in the shower we know we're full. We've never had the black tank so full we couldn't use it....the gray always goes first!

I can also recommend the technique Joan recommended, which is to practice in a full hookup site.  It is a safe way to find your limits.


One extra thing we do is to wash the dishes in a dishpan and dump the water into the toilet since we also fill our grey tank first.  This gives us about two more days of dry camping ability and also matches the capacity of our fresh water tank to the two waste tanks.
