I'm thinking ahead as I know the FL sites are hard to get. We plan to start FT early summer 2021. We would like to be in So. Florida next winter for 3-4 months. We will (hopefully) have a 43' 5er. I'd be very interested in your recommendations for favorite RV parks!
Topsail is excellent... it is a state park and has a 14 day limit I think. If you want a site for next winter for 3-4 months south of Tampa and anywhere close to the shore...you are already behind the curve on getting a reservation. Most parks down here look for 6 month reservations now and put anything less on a waiting list...we stayed at Seminole CG in North Fort Myers 8 Winters but it is almost all 5 or 6 monthers as I recall. There will be plenty of spots up near Ocala or in Acadia if you want more south as Ocala doesn’t stay as warm...but then you will be more out in the country where it is an hour drive to get anywhere.
IMO, forget about the South Florida east coast and we grew up there.
Neil and Connie's suggestion is good, but limited as to say time allowed. If you get on it getting something in central Florida is doable and will be less expensive then "true" South Florida.
Cedar Key is really nice is your looking for "old" Florida, close to the Gulf, but not much else. Really enjoy Cedar Key RV Resort VERY laid back. Nice and not as expensive.
Jane and Frank, it's not going to be any good for long term but as a back up/fill in just in case you manage to get two or three locations for a month here and there, if you can boondock comfortably for a bit, keep the WMA (5 Water Management areas) in your arsenal. They have some really neat free camping for up to 14 days at a time I believe.
Also check out the Wildlife Management Areas as well = free and paid ones.
Just saying as a stop gap fill in maybe for you if needed.
