Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

HELP! We have been at an RV park for 3 months.  Preparing to leave and, of course, will not fire up.  Turns over fine. Changed fuel filter (which was clogged and had algae).  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you have resolved this by now, let us know.
My thoughts, if the fuel filter was clogged fuel lines may be too. Check fuel in tank also for algae

We've been sitting in the sun for July, I'm gonna get some algae preventer and run our engine
. I do that for our Florida winters, we usually travel a bit more in the summer

If I could find a professional I would.  The Florida Keys seem to be lackingin this department.  All diesel mechanics are boat mechanics and have no desire to look at my RV.  So we are stuck with my husband's mechanical skills (not in the diesel dept) and folks who can help guide us.

Since this issue has apparently not been resolved yet I would look seriously at the fuel system. You said that the fuel filter was clogged and had algae. Since algae won't just grow in a fuel filter I would suspect that it has grown throughout the fuel system, especially the lines. Have you tried disconnecting the lines from the fuel tanks and draining the tanks and blowing out the fuel lines? If not that would be my first thought. I might also beg and plead with one of the boat mechanics telling them your tale of woe. Surely someone in the Keys services RVs and trucks, you just need to find them. Maybe find a trucking company and see who they use. I feel bad that you are in such a predicament. Here's a link to an article about diesel algae, it's for boaters, but I don't think it applies to just boaters. From a quick read it look like you will need to drain, clean and refill your fuel tanks. Best of luck.
