Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

New Horizons Bedroom Slide Inoperative

Help! My 3 month old Summit S37IK3S has decided to give me heartburn this morning. The bedroom slide will not retract. There are no gear noises but the motor runs and there is no slide movement. The slide has been sitting open for the last week. It is Sunday morning here in the Fairbanks, AK area and all shops are closed and I will be required to move out of my site later this morning. I would highly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,

Hans Fischl

isn't there a way to manually retract a slide-out? I'm sorry, but I don't have anything else to offer.

It actually sounds like the valve at the hydraulic manifold, by the pump, is not opening assuming the pump is running.  If you can identify the valve you should be able to operate this it manually.  This is a Lippert system and I would suggest looking in the instructions that came with the NH for the Lippert hydraulic system.

Worse case suggestion:  Disconnect the hydraulic line going to the side of the cylinder that is extended.  It may be under the bed in the Summit.  Get a bunch of rags as the fluid is going to have to go someplace.  Then with enough help, push the slide in. Literally, push it in from the outside.  All of this assumes a lot of things including the Summit bedroom slide is built the same as the Majestic.  It would be much better to disconnect the hydraulic line at the manifold value assembly near the pump as the fluid will be expelled.  But I have no idea how to describe locating which line is the bedroom retract line.  It would have to be traced out.  There is no "manual" system with the hydraulics.

Keep one thing in mind - they can tell you to leave but with the slide out it really doesn't matter what they say.  Your not leaving with a B/R slide out.

There is, but right now at least the manual method doesn't seem to be working.

Bill, if it's not too much to ask, if and when you get a chance, can you please send me a photo of the wiring going to the manifold. I had to disconnect the 3 wires to clean out the area from all the dirt that got into that area and I may have put the wires back wrong. My system is located where the batteries normally are. My Lithium batteries sit behind a divider in the basement. The location of the Lippert system allows road dirt, gravel, etc. to get into this area, hence the cleaning. Even so, since the other 2 slides are working I'm thinking that may not be the problem but I'll pursue all the leads I can before I call NH tomorrow.

Working!! Reconnected the wires to the manifold with the yellow wire back to where it should have been all along. Slide operation now works as advertised. Only cost me 2 additional days at Riverview RV Park, and a cancelled stay at Riley Campground, Denali NP. Important lesson learned here: before disconnecting any wires ALWAYS keep track of the original connections. I didn't follow my own military training as an electronic tech of keeping track. Tough lesson.

Thought so and good!  Riverview isn't all that bad, for Fairbanks, but I'd sure rather be in Denali, NP.  Hope you get one clear day there.  We go three in a row and that was unheard of.

Safe travels,

I happy you resolved the problem and thankful that Bill gave a better reply than I did.

Have fun at Denali. I was there 4 years ago, but just to do the bus tour.
