Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My husband, Tom, and I are seriously considering the full-time lifestyle. We toyed with the idea of full-timing a few years ago and weren't quite ready. In the meantime, I retired at 53, moved to a 55+ community in SW Florida, evacuated for Hurricane Irma four months after moving. We purchased a small travel trailer and decided we really love camping. While we have made many friends in our community, we don't "love" living here. We have still been considering full-time RVing. We love the outdoors - we kayak, hike, mountain bike, etc. Today we went to the Fort Myers RV show and looked the 5th Wheel we are most drawn to. We spoke to someone about workamping and have decided to seriously research and plan the move to full-timing. We are hoping to learn as much as we can through forums like this one.
My biggest reservation is how to even begin planning what a year of full-time RVing will be like (i.e., how does one begin planning routes, workamping, etc.)
Well hi there Mary Pucker. There is a plethora of information here. I would especially look at the FAQ and some of Howard and Linda's articles. Just something I have picked up about workamping is you ain't gonna get rich. If your lucky you may make $15/hr but $10-12/hr is more likely. Having said that my wife and I are in the process of downsizing right now and we plan on living on about $2,500-2,700 a month, and not live like paupers. I saw Howard a couple of weeks ago at the Grand Rapids, MI RV show and he said that was realistic. Please factor into that budget that we will be on Medicare and I don't think you're eligible yet. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck and maybe we'll see you on the road.
