Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I currently live in Anchorage, Alaska, and will be retiring with 30 years of federal service in October 2020. I plan to become a full time RVer and devote myself to volunteering for the many National Park facilities in the U.S., sharing my jewelry-making skills and products using locally sourced items during my travels, and, eventually, looking for that perfect Continuing Care Community. I am looking forward to attending the 2019 rally and learning all about full time RVing and meeting some new friends.
Welcome, Renee! I suggest renting different types of RVs for short periods to see what you like. Some state and federal parks have length limits so consider those when you buy.

Thanks, Larry. Yes, that is what has been recommended to me. Doing some limited research, though, I'm pretty much thinking a motorhome. And, unfortunately, they don't have these to rent here in Anchorage. Nor do they allow pets, and I have a cat that will be joining me in my new adventures. I'll have to see what I can find in the lower 48 in terms of rentals. Thank you!!
If you are thinking MHs, also consider a toad...towed vehicle...to drive around after parking the MH. The towing capacity of the MH must meet, or hopefully exceed, the weight of the toad.

Yep, have been thinking about that, too. I do love my Mazda CX5, but I'm considering selling that and getting something smaller to tow around. Options, options, options ... which is why I'm looking forward to my first rally! Lots of good informative sessions that will help me make smart choices.

The Rally will help you a LOT. Towing a vehicle will require you choose to tow "four wheels down" or on a dolly. H&L just went thru this so they will be able to offer good advice. Ask lots of questions ... have fun.

If you don't go four down, please understand you will have three "vehicles" when camping...MH, toad and the dolly or trailer. Backing a dolly or short trailer is hard if not impossible with a MH. Moving them by hand is also hard if not impossible.
