Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Renting a tow vehicle for a 5th wheel?!

We have a small 5th wheel (dry weight 5750) that I love, but our tow vehicle is having some mechanical issues.  Does anyone know of company that will rent you a truck with a fifth wheel hitch?  I have found several options for a pull behind, but that's it so far.  I've called rental companies and RV dealers and not having much luck.  This could be a nice niche business for someone - haha.  I'm in the suburban Chicago area.

Thank you!!

Not to say that there aren't any places like that, but I would think that most places that rent pickups wouldn't want to take up space in the bed for a fifth wheel hitch, especially if there isn't a lot of demand for such a pickup.  You might have better luck with checking with RV parks to see if they would know of any of their residents would consider towing your fifth wheel to its destination.  A lot of that will depend on their generosity and how far you want to tow the trailer.

That said, welcome to the forums.

Terry

You might want to look into RV delivery drivers. There are quite a few folks around Elkhart IN that deliver RVs for a living. I know that usually they are coming back on their own nickle so a little more money in the till would probably be welcome depending upon where you want to go. I'm betting that most of them going west come right down I-80 past Chicago. Just a thought.

Terry and others reading along ... regarding "finding a generous person to tow your RV" ... you could unknowingly be asking that person(s) to tow your RV and putting them in a compromising/very expensive situation (i.e., many people do not know that their RV policy does not cover them when towing someone else's RV with their truck ... whether you are paying them or they are just being generous) ... putting both parties at risk (i.e., the owner of the truck [the person being generous] and likely the RV owner.) A consideration.

Agree!  I had pretty much decided if it were someone else moving it that I would be most comfortable if that was their business, and they are insured to do so.  I didn't know you aren't covered when you haul someone else's trailer - good info!
