Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Any idea what would cause this?

We purchased our first fifth wheel, a 2016 Bighorn 3570RS back in December.  We live in South Dakota and we bought it from a dealer in Portland, OR and did not want to pull it home in the dead of winter so we worked out a deal with them to keep it on the lot for us.  We were planning on going out next week to pick it up and the dealer called us today to inform us that they had opened it up to start doing the PDI and get it all ready for us when they found this.  We are wondering if anyone has any experience with it or have seen it before?  It has basically been locked up since about the middle of December until today.

Gee, in California you would have a Bailee/Bailor situation and be covered. What specifically was your deal with the dealer? Did you sign anything releaving them of...anything? Dealers are very protective...of themselves.

What is it that we are suppose to see? I'm assuming water infiltration?

They said they are seeing no other indication of water.  No wall stains, dry carpet with no stains there either.  I would have thought there would be more indication of water.

Myself, I’d run and run fast from the deal. My guess is the dealer will only repair the cosmetic items. Not sure what is the cause of the damage would make me wonder what structural issues (in terms of walls, ventilation, electrical, mold) could show up down the road. It’s worth getting an attorneys opinion prior to driving that far for problems. If nothing else contact the consumer affairs office in Oregon if the dealer won’t let you back out.

Well they fixed the door frames and found that the vent cover over the bathroom fan was slightly open.  It is possible that rain or snow got in there and leaked onto the bathroom floor.  At this point that is all they have found, the seals all looked good.  We are going to have the carpeting pulled back though when we get there to make sure there is nothing under there that could cause any more issues.  Thanks for all the input, we are heading out there next week and will carefully look things over ourselves!

Looks like water damage

My first thought (but it seems too implausible) is a heavy snow load weight pushed down and caused the trim to split.

Sounds like they are being honest about it. That definitely looks like water got in near the bathroom floor, soaked in to the trim which swelled it to the point it cracked the surface of the trim. Make sure you check the vinyl floor to make sure it did not get under that and swell the sub floor wood. That is not an easy or cheap fix.

I would suggest moisture caused that. The carpeting could have gotten wet and the water would then wick up into the trim and wall.
