Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
we will be going full time in about 12 months and I have a question on tv service ,,,, I have a rooftop batwing that does ok for current weekend trips but need a better solution when we go fulltime ,,, we have 2 TV's one in living room and one in bedroom ,,, so if I get a tailgater type dish and 2 receivers and dish pay as u go ,,, I have been told I need a G2 dish that has 2 feeds to watch a different channel on each tv at same time ?? is this correct or will I need to do special wiring because there is only one coax cable connection on the outside of rv that feeds both tv's
We have the dish king Tailgater. We got the unit that will work for two receivers so we can watch our TV's. I have it as a portable unit so I can move it around. A friend just bought the winegard pathfinder X2 for dish and he likes it. Said it picks up east and west feeds. We bought ours at Camping World and got the discount from good sams club and Ins. along with it. Receiver went bad and we got a new one no ?'s asked. Is your TV antenna on top of RV HD ? If not go get an HD and replace it too. If you get dish make sure you ask for an RV specialist. We were told this from someone else, so we tried it and so they said we have a flag (some type of information that shows we full time)on our account. Since we have had this done seems to help on our conversations with dish. Our Dish services is the flex Plan and we added locals and sport. Recently called in and placed it on hold and after we got out of the woods we called in and had it reconnected. No reconnection fees. That's why I like The flex plan. Has all our favorites. Discovery, Lifetime, History, DIY, USA, CNN, CI, AXS, Scifi, and a lot more. Natgeo too. Have been in some wooded areas and got a signal through to branches now the leaves are off trees but I know this was luck. We did upload an app for the IPhone and it shows us where satelites are. I place dish that way and wife hits the buttons and next we cross our fingers, just picking. Love our tailgater and are loving the life style. We wish you the best in yours.

First of all, there are NO "HD" TV antennas in reality, only in marketing hype. RF signals are all the same to the antenna as long as they're within the design frequency range. If the antenna you have is working ok, there's no need to change it.
For Dish satellite reception, I recommend the Winegard Pathway X2 portable dome over the Tailgater domes. The X2 will feed two sat receivers/TV's, and it is also dual arc capable, using either the eastern arc sats (61.5, 72.7, 77) or the western arc sats (110, 119, 129) as needed for your current location. We've been in many sites over the years where the tree cover prevented getting a signal from one arc or the other, but never both so far. On the east coast, there are also a number of areas where the local channels are only on the eastern arc sats, or at least only in HD on the eastern arc. One last item, none of the dome style sat antennas work with the Dish Hopper series of multi-tuner DVR receivers. Only the open face multi-LNB free standing or automatic roof mounted open face dishes work with those receivers.
On edit: I reread your post, and forgot to mention that the dome style sat antennas will only allow different channels on two TV's when both channels are on the same satellite. If one TV is watching a channel on the 129 sat for instance, and the other TV wants a channel that's on 110, one of them's not going to be happy. One of the receivers is always the "master", and it controls which sat is currently being received. Multi-LNB open faced dishes don't have that problem since they see all sats in the selected arc at once.
