Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have a workcamping job lined up in Colorado for next summer. We don't have an RV yet but our plan is to come home after that job for one more winter, so now we are thinking of waiting to buy the RV to save on storage costs. We were thinking another option would be to rent something for approximately 4 months. I am starting to research this option but was wondering if anyone has any ideas. Maybe you know someone who, for some reason, won't be using their RV next summer (say mid May to the first week in October or so) and would be interested in renting it to us. We have a 3/4 pickup (no fifth wheel hitch as of now but we could put one in if needed). We are thinking either travel trailer or fifth wheel. We welcome any thoughts or ideas you have. We were attendees of the rally in Sevierville, TN in the spring of 2017. We learned a lot at that event and are taking our time choosing our RV! Thanks!
For 4 months you may be able to find a good used RV that will work cheaper or for the same price you would pay to rent.
You'll need to do a lot of research to find the best used one available in your area. Have likely candidates inspected by an independent RV mechanic to make sure all systems are in good working order.
In the area where I live, a rental will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 per day so you could hit $8000 to $10000 in rent for the 4 months.
I see a lot of good private party RVs for sale in the $5000 to $10000 range every time I look in RV Trader or Craigslist.

I believe The Bear II is right on regarding long term rentals. Storage doesn't cost that much if you look around.

where will you be in Colorado? Have a relative that just went back to sticks and bricks but not sure of their intentions for their 5er. They are in Colorado Springs.

Last summer, my wife and I bought a travel trailer for under $5K and used it all summer. Then we sold it for about $500 more than we paid for it. We did add new tires to it, but all in all, we broke even minus the $300 hitch I threw in for the deal. Not bad to travel all summer for just $300.
Renting is going to deplete your money and leave you with less to save. If you buy something cheap (make sure it doesn't leak and you'll be pretty comfortable in it), you can resell it at the end of the season.
If you won't be moving around much, you can even have it delivered or hire someone to bring it to your campground.
Just an idea!
