Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My husband, Kurt and I wanted to say hello. We have been RV'g since 2008. We average 1 - 2 weekends a month from spring to fall since we are still working. During the winter months, we use all of our vacation days on a cruise ship trying to find the warm sun! Last year we bought a 2016 Keystone Montana 39' 5th wheel. This will be what we retire in, once that day comes...lol.
We started RV'g in a class C motorhome. It was great until we wanted to have someone visit us. We had no opposable seating. So, we shopped around and purchased an 8 y.o. class A motorhome. We loved it until it was costing us more to maintain it than we were willing to pay. We now have the above 5th wheel which we really enjoy. Now, if retirement would just get here so we could live in 6 months out of the year, we would be in heaven!!!
Winnebago TT 2101DS & 2020 Silverado LTZ Z71. 300 watts WindyNation solar w/MPPT, 2 Trojan T-125s. TALL flag pole. Prefer USFS, COE, BLM, USF&WS, NPS, TVA, state/county camps. 14 year Army vet-11B40 then 11A - old MOS 1542 & 1560.
I just signed onto the forum the other day but wanted to take a moment to say Hi from sunny Florida.
We have only been RV'ing for a year but hope to one day retire and also possibly do this full time(Lord willing). We are still pretty green at this but have found that this community and this site is a valuable resource to learn as much as we can about the possibilities of this lifestyle and hope to make a few friends along the way. We currently have a 23 Foot Forest River Travel Trailer but will upgrade in the near future.
It is interesting that you have a Montana 5th Wheel. We see them all over the place down here, so I assume this is a real popular brand. There are so many brands to choose from so we are trying to do our due diligence. We continue to look, research and ask questions as they come up to get as informed as possible. If I may ask you what it was that made you choose the Montana over all the others?
This is Kurt replying. The reason we chose the Keystone Montana is:
We saw many of them at RV parks and on the road so we figured they must be good. My wife, Jackie did research on quality and Keystone is a well known manufacturer. Their quality and reputation is one of the best.
The interior design; i.e. trim, appliances, faucets, etc are top quality for the price range.
We looked at the Moutaineer and the High Country but liked the build and extra niceties. The moutaineer and high country have solid wood veneer for trim (pine with cherry or mahogany veneer). The Montana is solid wood (cherry, mahogany, etc.)
Knowing that Jackie and I will be living in the 5th wheel as part timers, we wanted the higher end RV but yet still within our price range.
One of the limitations of living in Utah is the variety of RV's sold. Most families are large here so they cater to that population by offering lower end and priced rv models. We actually went to Lazydays in Tampa (while there on vacation) to look at a variety of 5th wheels geared toward the retiree couple. We narrowed down our choices to Bay Hill and the Montana. Mobile Suites are out of our price range.
I hope this helps inform you on our decision making rationale.
We will be moving to FL when we retire. Where are you guys?
Thanks for the info on the Montana, I can certainly understand why you chose this model We are in the Florida panhandle just outside of Pensacola , Best beaches in the world. I am actually from New York (they call us transplants) but my wife is from here. After I retired from the Navy we just decided to stay. She didn't have to twist my arm that hard, nice people, great food and sweet tea. What more can you ask for. Thanks again for the info.

Looking forward to getting to know each of you!
Welcome to the site ! Lots of great information on here. Do a search in the search tab to help find discussions on certain topics or just start a new thread. A lot of threads are old, so if you don't see a recent thread , start a new one. We live in Florida full time for now. We took a trip out to SW Utah in 2015 and loved it. Next Spring we will be heading to the Northwest!
We can definitely share our most favorite spots in northern Utah and southern Idaho.
Our top 3 choices for RV parks include:
Rendezvous Beach State Park in Laketown, Utah
mountainvalleyrv in Heber City, Utah
villageoftreesrvresort in Declo, Idaho
My hours at work recently changed so we will be camping approximately every other weekend. Kurt and I will explore a lot more of our state parks. We are somewhat limited where we go because of the size of our 5th wheel, but that is okay.
